Due to the military impenetrability of this castle the town of Carrickfergus long thrived even when surrounding villages suffered defeats.

We visited during the festival so it was free admission. Great displays of armor, archery, falconry during the festival. There is a good film about the history - great for all ages.

Carrickfergus Castle is a regular haunt for me even as a 'local' Aside from being a very well maintained property ,it is lovely to walk around and well worth the entrance fee, which isn't much. Sadly the military museum has long since left the Castle...More

Carrick Castle is beautiful site to see as you are driving up to it. It cost us £10 (£5 per adult) for a 45 min visit which is quite expensive. This was due to the castle closing at 5pm and us arriving just before 4pm....More

We had a great 3 hours of exploring the castle and a picnic lunch on the grounds. The weather was great so we got to go on the upper levels of the castle walls and see the views all around.

This is a fascinating well preserved castle and undoubtably the pride of Carrickfergus. Great place to take your time wandering round through such a historic place. Great value for money.

We had a fantastic day at the castle. The staff were all so friendly and there was so much to see and do. The views from the castle walls were absolutely breathtaking! I would definitely recommend to everyone for kids and grown ups alike!

Very well preserved castle though it is smaller than it looks from the outside. We went on a very warm sunny so we looked around the castle, walked around the harbour and then went on the beach next to the castle. Had a lovely afternoon...More

We have been a few times as our son loves the castle. They have added a new visitor centre with interactive activities which they love. However the entry cost is expensive for a coupke of hours out!

I can also highly recommend the Ulster folk museum mentioned above but make sure you give enough time.... it's massive but we'll worth it. A really good day out for all.
