Small but nice

There is not a lot left of this castle but it was still very interesting and easy to find in the town.

We were visiting Carmarthen and popped into the castle to visit the information bureau to enquire about another attraction. What a surprise. The lady on the desk was more than keen to point out the attractions of the castle. There isn't much left, but it once housed a Victorian police station complete with cells. We were taken down to see... More

It's a shame there's not a lot of the castle left, as I think it would have been a fantastic place to see, tourist information was good and the cells interesting. Great views from viewing points.

The castle is intertwined with modern buildings, most of the structure bar the gatehouse and one wall have gone. In saying that please visit, you can till see the reason why the castle was put there, and there is an exhibit of the local jail which was based at the site - this includes 2 cells and a gallows !

There is not much of the castle left so a lot of imagination is required. The prison cell was somewhat interesting.

There really is not a lot to see or do at the castle. The best bit are the benches outside. It is open 9.30 to 4.30 but I went in at about 9 althugh the small shop was not open at the time

Like some of the other reviews there isn't much to see here. I wouldn't call it a place to see only but if you are in the area you might as well see this. There is a couple of bits to see and worth a visit. It's clean tidy and good for the kids to explore.

I do believe that it use to be nice and large castle, but unfortunately in these days just one of side walls and entrance gate remain. It is nice for sure, but not worth to necesserily put it into list to see in carmarthenshire...

As castles go, this was a large building with not much to commend it. The information machines provided some details however, the main advantage was the views from the battlements towards the river and elevated view above the gatehouse. To achieve this you have to climb the spiral staircase just inside the entrance from the street. There was no charge... More
