As castles go, this was a large building with not much to commend it. The information machines provided some details however, the main advantage was the views from the battlements towards the river and elevated view above the gatehouse. To achieve this you have to climb the spiral staircase just inside the entrance from the street. There was no charge... More

The Castle is hidden within the town itself. There are press button information machines explaining how people lived and worked. Go up the spiral stairs to see the views and it is all free. Hopefully the Tourist Information is open to give you extra information about the castle. Thanks Powys, Wales.

Off of the main road, well sign posted and was a bit surprised to see the slightly run down area to which it sat alongside, or what they had built around this beauty of a building. A bit disappointed to say the least but gave it a chance and once inside the outside seems to disappear which is lovely. The... More

Between the edge of Nott's Square and the County Hall, Carmarthen Castle gives a sense of the strategic position it commanded in the early middle ages.IF you haven't visited for a while, the section overlooking the river and the quayside is now open, with walkways and history/information signs. Looking over the valley on one side, and the town on the... More

In recent years the standard of help has gone down but not here the lady on the desk Merlin was not only helpful but gave us a free tour of the jail cells and lots of ideas of where to go and what to do. She even treated our dog with a treat. Wonderful service all with a smile.

Imposing site as you arrive. Had an evening walk after a terrible stay at the Rose and Crown hotel. Town well past its best. Shops seem to serve the locals well, but if passing, be a shame not to visit such a large "proper" castle

Not much remains of this castle. It does house the Tourist Information Center and a small gift shop and if you're there already is worth a mooch. There is an interactive area and a spiral staircase with some nice views. It's difficult to find and not well marked.

Popped into Carmarthen to get information about the surrounding area. The castle is right in the centre of this lovely town which has loads of shops, major names and quirky boutiques. Lovely friendly staff. Beautiful view of the Town Hall which is very French looking and can be seen for miles.

I've been holidaying in Wales for over 40 years and we always go shopping in Carmarthern and I only came across Carmarthern Castle 2 years ago, I even asked local shop owners if it was hidden behind something because I had never seen it. Its a lovely old castle soI visit it every year now.
