We enjoyed exploring the castle which has stunning views. It is free and quite extensive. We liked the special cattle in their shed. We went to the cafe with its tasty food. Newton House was disappointing. We had National Trust membership so it was free. A paying visitor would have felt cheated. The curators had clearly made an effort with the displays but the house needed refurbishment and most of its contents had been lost.

I visit the estate regularly and love going to the castle and estate to walk the dogs and see the views.
The Christmas market was lovely, with lots of small local businesses. The entry price was very steep at ÂŁ10pp.
The issue with the Christmas market is that they created a car park in one of the fields due to the volume of people attending. I was in a queue for the best part of an hour waiting for a space to park. The vast number of volunteers were utterly useless and I think it would have been easier and quicker if none of them were there. They could have had signs and marked out the spaces.
The temporary car park is further away than the normal car park which is about a 15 minute walk up to the house. They did provide a shuttle of minibuses if you cannot do this walk.

We visited Dinefwr on a recent trip to the Brecons and was amazed. The house itself was relatively small but well laid out and with lots of interesting information. The story of the estate and in fact most of the local area is a fascinating one and well worth researching if you appreciate history. However the beauty of the estate lies in the fantastic grounds that both the house and castle sit in. We decided to take a long walk and found ourselves passing through rolling meadows, luscious woodland and following a beautiful riverbank, returning to the car park at the side of the house four hours later. The weather was kind but all in all combining the history and the beauty of nature we had a splendid day.
A special place and not to be missed if you are in the area.

The local nobility invested in the house some 200+ years ago on an area once visited by the romans. Good to spend 2 hours or more learning the local history.

What a great place and so dog friendly, happy
To have dogs in downstairs rooms so you can tour the house, staff so friendly and cafe was lovely. We walked some of the grounds but went on a terrible rainy day so cut short the visit. Would definitely visit here again

Lovely walk around the grounds taking in the deer and rare breed cattle herds. Blew the cobwebs away nicely after a long night.............hose closed but cafe open (shame about the quality of the coffee)!

Our last day of a long weekend with little time and too rainy to walk to the castle. But the house was very interesting with knowledgeable and friendly National Trust volunteers. Would have liked to do some walks there and look at the ruined (Welsh rather than English built) castle. We hope to go back for another visit at some point when back in that area of Wales.

A visit to Newton House encompassed the wider estate. Parking is free as a NT member. There are a number of walks with cattle and deer herd as well as sheep in the estate. Plenty of paths and gates with woodland walks as well as the house and castle.
Make the most of a visit and walk the wider estate.

Visited with our dogs - lovely set of walks around the estate although the deer park is out of bounds to dogs. Lovely cafe to sit out and enjoy a coffee.
