About
At Craven Museum you can connect with local characters and landscapes from the past. Some of the star objects on display include a copy of Shakespeare’s First Folio, a Roman Amethyst Intaglio and the Iron-Age Flasby Sword. The Museum is now fully accessible and family friendly.

Great!

Loved it here! I’ve lived in skipton for over 6 years now and never have been. Me and my young daughter found it very interesting. For such a small museum there is a lot to look at, lots of interactive things too. Brilliant to see the history of this little town

What a lovely Museum to the local area, very well set out and organised with a wide varied amount of exhibits.
Covid restricting the interactive exhibits but excellent nonetheless.
Plenty of detailed information and explanation of all items on view which raised the interest as we walked round.
An excellent attraction to Skipton which we really enjoyed.

Recently modernised local museum, welcoming staff.

I always enjoy visiting a town’s local museum. This one was free to enter and the friendly staff were helpful and informative. The building is very smart, having been modernised recently. Lots of interesting local history. The provision of immaculate toilets is always useful as you can extend your visit and spend more time examining the exhibits, etc. Well done, Skipton, this museum is a credit to the town!

Fantastic and welcoming museum
Aug 2021 • Family
This was a great find on our last day of our Skipton holiday. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, and made a real effort to interact with us and our five year old. There's a small tick list of items for kids to find as they go round, this went down well with my son.

The museum itself is really well put together with displays suited for both adults and children. I was amazed to see a Shakespeare first folio as well as artefacts from Bronze age/Roman eras up to the present.

It's free and absolutely worth a visit.

Visit with young children
Jul 2021 • Family
We had such a lovely visit here with our 3 children ages 2,8 and 11. There is lots to see and even with COVID secure measures they allow some hands on interactive displays. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. You need to book a slot at the moment but we hadn’t unfortunately but there was room
for us luckily. The older children loved seeing the Olympic gold medals as we are watching the present Tokyo Olympics so that was so interesting for them. The free trail that they provide the children with is brilliant and it really helps to pinpoint the most interesting items. The 2 year old enjoyed listening to the telephones and dabbing the interactive displays with the provided pen. The gift shop is small but lovely. There are toilets in there too I noticed. We will definitely visit again.

Great for a short visit
Aug 2018 • Family
This place is great if you have a couple of hours spare. It's not very large but holds many interesting artifacts and the exhibits are very informative. Has a few activities for the kids to do (colouring, mini treasure hunt etc) and the staff are very helpful and approachable. The museum is free but they ask for a £2 donation. Worth every penny.

Very nice little museum
Jul 2018 • Family
Originally started by several people who had collections of different items, mostly from the region. They have a little bit of everything, from old agricultural machinery to World War I displays, dinosaur bones, iron age tools. Very nice to see. In the town hall, free entrance.
