- Bryony S1 contributionFabulous family farmy day outWe visited today, Good Friday 22, for the first time since Covid. What an absolute joy. We couldn’t fault it. The ambiance of the place was friendly, family oriented and run, clean, safe and spacious. Being Good Friday, it was busy, but queues were never too long and the park in general never felt over crowded. The entry price was brilliant. Standard price for all, which was considerably lower than others in the area, but offering fabulous value for money. We had such an amazing time on the tractor, giggling as we jiggled about, that we went on twice! This was the only extra cost that we had to pay, but lasted for ages and was well worth the token amount we were able to pay by cash or card. Farmer Chris was so informative, yet was so down to earth, we really felt like we were immersed into the real life on the farm, rather than a commercial theme park experience. Highly recommended. There was a face painter at the park today, who was inundated with the opportunity to show off her skills. This was at an extra cost, but I felt it was reasonable. I’m not sure if this is available every day, or just because it was Good Friday. Alistair loved his tiger face. We decided to eat lunch from the cafe. This provides us with homemade sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes. Alongside great coffee. The prices were reasonable and the food delicious. Alistair loved his children’s fodder bag. There are lots of picnic tables both inside and out and picnics are happily welcomed. There feels no pressure to have to buy food from the farm, which makes such a refreshing change, and means you have money for ice creams or cakes without feeling the pinch. Staff at the park were kind, friendly and hard working. Nothing was too much trouble. They were so busy, yet no one felt rushed or undervalued, everyone was made to feel special and I’m sure left with great memories of the day. I wholeheartedly thank the whole Hesketh Farm Park family for giving my family the chance to spend with you and your animals. We look forward joining you again soon. Love Bryony and Alistair.Visited April 2022Traveled with familyWritten May 1, 2022
- Frankie MBurnley, United Kingdom51 contributionsLovely day at the farmFantastic farm with an outstanding outside area. We visited on a lovely sunny day so spent most of the day outside. The views are beautiful from the farm. The tractor ride is £1.50 per person and is well worth it, my little boy enjoyed it and the farmer gives a talk on what they are currently doing at the farm based on the time of year. There are plenty of tractors to play on and all the kids seemed to be loving them. The cafe serves light bites such as sandwiches and sausage rolls, prices are reasonable. The inside area has calves , pigs with piglets , and touching areas with chicks and guinea pigs. Some of the animals looked tired towards the end of the day so would be good to see them put away or swapped for ones which hadn’t been handled all day. The 2 tortoises were free to roam the whole site which was lovely to see.Visited April 2021Traveled with familyWritten May 31, 2021
- SuJ30 contributionsA lovely day outWe were a little worried about how covid secure the visit would be given the ‘no need to book’ system but we all had a lovely day and had to drag the kids away after 5 hrs of fun. It was busy and in the indoor spaces there was some congestion at times, but most adults were wearing masks and it was easy to dip in and out of the indoor space and find quieter moments to handle chicks and guinea pigs which we returned to many times over the day. There was enough staff around to help with handling animals and plenty of wash/sanitising areas. They have put more attractions outside, a lovely sandpit outdoors and there’s plenty of picnic benches to spread people all around the field. So on a fine day it gives more space for everyone to enjoy and it was really pleasant sitting out with that stunning view. Overall it was a really lovely day, we definitely got value for money - especially as you can take your own food. I guess it’s luck if you hit it on a busy day and booking would definitely help reassure people that there is more control on numbers and avoid stressful visits.Visited May 2021Traveled with familyWritten June 20, 2021
- lolapops7Yorkshire, United Kingdom314 contributionsBusy afternoon at the farmI visited here with my 15 month old nephew. On arrival is was so busy, took a while to park. The indoor area was heaving, it was really hard to get up close to the animals as there were so many people there. I had to queue to see most of them and in the end, gave up. I saw a review about kids handling the animals and I have to admit, I agree. I did find it a bit disturbing watching toddles picking up guinea pigs and passing them around without a care in the world and no adult giving a damn. Same with the chicks, there must have been at least 50 in each "pen" and someone commented one was dead (I'm not sure how true that was as I didn't look) That room with the tortoises and chicks absolutely stank too. The cafe area was fine, loads of seating areas and somewhere to leave prams so my nephew could play in the sand pit and the little ride on tractors. I think they need to limit numbers and put it back to bookings, it was manic in there, when I looked at the leaflet, we'd missed a few things as we couldn't get to them. Sadly I feel this place is a money making venture without actually caring so much for (some) of the animals. We've been now, it was ok, I wouldn't return in a hurry, maybe when the kids are back at school as its not quite a busy.Visited August 2021Written August 6, 2021
- KipKingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom284 contributionsAmazing interactive children’s farmWhat an absolute gem of a place. Can’t praise this lovely petting farm enough. Having seen it advertised many times but not living in the area have never been so whilst staying in Grassington decided to give it a try. The farm is very well kept and looks so well cared for. Nice, well thought out play areas outside with lots of picnic benches and seats to enjoy the amazing views of the surrounding countryside. All the equipment is either new or very well maintained and there is lots of grass for running around and playing on. Our little one loved the mini hay bale maze and spent ages running around it hiding from us. Also being a massive tractor fan he loved getting inside the real John Deer tractor and pretending to drive it. Another highlight was the cracking bumpy tractor ride out into the field for a small well worth extra cost. Best tractor ride ever according to him “not slow “ in his 4 year old big boy voice. Inside, and as the weather wasn’t great first thing when we arrived was plenty to keep us entertained with lots of petting animals to touch and feed and interact with. We’ve never brushed a pig before but we have now. But best of all no booking slots to feed the animals or pick up a Guinea pig, the bell rang and off you went to feed the lambs or calves or collect the eggs. So much better than a farm we went to last week when we arrived at 10 am to find no lamb feeding slots available till 4 pm. When you have a little one you can’t predict what time they’ll want to do something, never mind in 6 hours time. The small cafe had a menu of sandwiches, delicious sausage rolls and cakes. Plenty of drinks and ice creams. All well priced and tasty. Can’t ask for anything more. Picnics are encouraged which is nice as many attractions now insist on no food brought in which makes the day either to expensive or out of people s price range. Having said that we were happy to buy numerous reasonably priced hot and cold drinks and slices of cake and had a try of the sausage rolls at the end of the day to keep us going The farm entrance fee is very good value and again doesn’t need to be booked in advance, thank goodness as I don’t know 2/3 weeks in advance wether we can visit attractions, I want to decide either the day before nor even on the day depending on a thousand things. All the staff were super friendly, cheerful and helpful. Will definitely be recommending a visit to anyone visiting the area with children. Just wish we didn’t live a 2 hour drive away as we would be regular visitor’s winter and summer. But as we often stay in the area I know we will be back.Visited May 2022Traveled with familyWritten May 1, 2022
- Maromaha4Wakefield, United Kingdom6 contributionsHeaving!Love this place & have visited several times before & as we found ourselves staying nearby, after viewing the website we decided to visit again & booked tickets, reassured that we would feel comfortable once there. Appreciate it’s the middle of summer, even tho the weather was rubbish but I couldn’t believe how busy it was, infact it was busier than on previous visits so not sure what the point is of pre-booking (I stupidly assumed it would be to limit the amount of visitors so we were able to maintain some sort of space between us). It was heaving, inside & out, even just queuing to get in was a concern - no spacers/markers to encourage keeping a distance. Infact, the only things we saw to remind us we were in the middle of a pandemic was a screen at the pay booth, a table with hand sanitiser & some signs advising handwashing for 20 seconds. It’s a place for little kids, of course it is & we expected to have excited little ones all around, but not so many we could barely move around without bumping into them at every turn We left after 10 minutes & never got to cuddle a guinea pig!!! :(We were very sorry to read your disappointing review of your visit today and are quite amazed as the lengths we have gone to, to ensure our visitors have a safe and enjoyable visit are vast. As you entered the farm park you would have been advised by our staff to sanitise your hands and our social distancing guidelines would have been put to you. Our online system allows a limited number of visitors entry every half hour and we are allowing approximately 50% less visitors than in previous years. We have huge signs to remind everyone about 2m distancing as well as floor strips and signs. All the way around the farm park there are sanitiser stations which are clearly marked and we have certainly not provided just the one on a table! The guinea pig area bales are divided up to provide space and social distancing and there would certainly have been plenty of space and opportunity for you to cuddle one if you had chosen too. The chick handling has been moved into different areas so that families still have space to enjoy this activity. All the tables in the lower building are exactly 2m apart and the outside area is extremely spacious too. The number of passengers that are permitted on the tractor ride at any one time has been reduced by half to keep everyone safe. The refreshment area operates a queuing system and has a screen in place. One person is served at a time to ensure that there is no leaning across each other. We have a very strict sanitising regime for all areas of the farm park which are all recorded. We have received so many wonderful comments from visitors who have enjoyed a lovely safe visit with us which has reassured us that the measures we have in place, in a situation that no-one has ever faced before are more than satisfactory. We do feel it a shame that you didn’t speak to one of us whilst at the farm park which would have given us the opportunity to reassure you.Written July 29, 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2020Traveled with familyWritten July 29, 2020
- chrissiekirkbyLeeds, United Kingdom116 contributionsGreat farmWe love this farm so much, it’s the best in the area for the price. The outdoor space is huge with lots of things to do. The animal handling sessions are the highlight of this place for my children and thankfully they have never been stopped due to OTT Covid restrictions. BUT I always supervise my children when handling the guinea pigs and chicks. Some reviews on here are moaning that children are left to manhandle the animals inappropriately, I think some responsibility should be placed back onto the parents surely. The staff on duty to supervise the animal handling sessions are patient, knowledgeable and lovely but ultimately, they’re not the parents are they? Same with the Go Karts outside. It specifically says on a sign that during busy periods it’s 4 laps of the track per “go” so where are the parents to tell their children to get off after they’ve done 4 laps? Many on their phones sat along way away from what I could see today. The indoor bit after the entrance where you pay is busy as the guinea pig handling is the first attraction you arrive at and it causes abit of a bottle neck in terms of people congestion. But it soon thins out when you move through. I can’t comment on the cafe as we take a picnic but their coffee is nice and hot and their caramel shortbread is delicious. I love not having to book a session. In short, it’s a farm. There are smells in rooms where the animals are. It’s busy in school holidays. But we love it.Visited August 2021Traveled with familyWritten August 12, 2021

Having said that we were happy to buy numerous reasonably priced hot and cold drinks and slices of cake and had a try of the sausage rolls at the end of the day to keep us going
The farm entrance fee is very good value and again doesn’t need to be booked in advance, thank goodness as I don’t know 2/3 weeks in advance wether we can visit attractions, I want to decide either the day before nor even on the day depending on a thousand things.

Brilliant day out with my children. We have been before but not since 2019. It was great to find somewhere we didn’t need to have booked weeks in advance! There were lots of staff around to help with the guinea pigs and serving at the takeaway cafe.
Children (and adults!) can cuddle guinea pigs and handle the chicks. There are lots of play areas outdoors and the new musical area is really lovely.
Take a picnic, there are plenty of picnic tables available.
Don’t forget the tractor ride, my children loved it!
There is plenty of hand sanitiser around the farm and masks are worn indoors. It wasn’t very crowded today and we felt safe all day.

What a fabulous day we had! Will defo be back. One if the best animal farms we've been to. Lovely grounds, well set out, lots of animals to see and interact with and the playground is great. The interactive musical chimes area is inspired! Fun tractor ride and information on the farm and its animals from Chris. We all enjoyed our time there, four generations from great Nanna Pam to great granddaughter Lily

I came here with my Dad and my daughter fir a family day out, having been past this farm many times but never actually going in. I have seen the tractor tours quite a few times and thought it looked really good so was looking forward to trying it.
We got to the ticket booth (£7 each) and found the tractor wasn't running that day. Never mind, these things happen but it was a bit disappointing.
The staff on the ticket booth looked as though he would rather have been anywhere else and looked and sounded bored. He didn't give us any info at all about what events were happening that day, such as demos or talks about the farm and animals so I'm not sure if they even do anything like this. If they don't, it would be a great idea to do so. There are some information boards up but a short talk about the animals and life on a farm would have been great.
My daughter liked the guinea pigs but they all seemed really docile and just sat without moving. I was surprised they were all so unmoving. Even my Dad expressed surprise at how quiet they were and said he hoped they were OK. They look well cared for, don't get me wrong, it just was quite strange to see so many all sitting so still. I didn't see any staff supervising them so they must just be trusted to stay on their cushions.
We went for a drink and an ice cream but there were only 2 options left, neither of which we fancied so I ordered 3 caramel shortbreads instead. Which came to £7.50!!! Extortionate. For 3 small squares of shortbread. They were incredibly sweet as well, so we ended up throwing 2 away.
The outside play area is nice. Or it would be if one of the Dad's hadn't done a loud hawk up of phlegm in the sand pit, rendering it totally unusable (obviously not the fault of the farm or staff, just further marred our enjoyment of the area).
There are also go karts which again are not staffed, so people were going the wrong way, getting stuck and stopping the flow of getting any momentum going. It was more of a chore than fun getting round the track.
All in all, I did expect more from this place. I hardly saw any staff, the food and drinks are completely overpriced and we had seen everything there in less than 90 minutes.
I left with a sense that I could safely say I'd been there but wouldn't be rushing going again. Its a shame because it is set in an amazing place, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and is ideal for people to see a working farm, however it feels like opportunities have been missed to showcase that.

We were disappointed to read your review after recently visiting the farm park. We are still a large working farm as well as running Hesketh which is open to the public. We have so many pieces of information all the way around the farm park giving details of farming, animal groups, gestation periods, diets etc, etc
to enhance the link between the farm and the farm park and were amazed you missed reading them. Every time an activity takes place, a bell is rung - very loudly inviting you to participate in that animal feeding session or egg collecting.
The guinea pigs are perfectly healthy and are so placid and chilled due to being cuddled a lot.
There are always 4 members of staff in the animal barn who keep a close eye on all the animals.
As to the comments on the pricing of our food and drinks, we feel that they are in line with many other attractions and we do offer visitors the option of bringing their own picnic.
Our season ends on the 31st October so our stocks of ice creams are not replenished but in mid season we do stock a wide range.

Myself and husband took our 7 and 1 year old for the day, and it was fantastic throughout.
All the staff were amazing and friendly and engaged well with the kids, they took part in collecting the chickens eggs, feeding the calf's, feeding the goats and the tractor ride for a cost of £1.50
Their was plenty for the kids to do and too keep them entertained, their was plenty of little guinea pigs for the kids to pet and feed.
The outdoor play area was brilliant and it was nice to see so much play area and things for the kids to go and freely play with.
We highly recommend anyone off all ages to go and visit with children, this truly is a brillaint place to visit and support and I could not believe how low priced it was, food is also nice be for good weather I would bring picnic and sit outside.

Have visited this time lots of times before, but was really disappointed today. The farm proudly exclaims that they ‘won’t turn anyone away’, and do not operate a booking system. We arrived shortly after opening at 10am and the indoor animal area can only be described as chaos! No space to socially distance, overall just very crowded.
There were some very small chicks in an open ‘tray’ type thing- with no staff supervising them at all. Very young children were picking them up, dropping them down, passing them around. It was distressing and uncomfortable to see.
Due to this, we wouldn’t return. The lack of social distancing and lack of staff watching the animals made me feel that it’s become more about making as much money as possible, which is really sad.

Do you do adults drive a tractor experience where you get to drive a tractor?

Is it walking distance if you go on the train from Embsay to Bolton Abbey? It says it looks out on it but not sure how far it is from where the train stops!

Not really unless you fancy walking 2-2.5 miles from Embsay & Bolton Abbey St (?) and part of the journey will be A/B roads.
You're better of getting a taxi for what will then be a short journey.
Save your energy for walking around Hesketh Farm Park and enjoying the views and interaction with the animals.
I hope this helps!
