Autumn Day out in Kent.
Nov 2019 • Friends
Decided to visit the Kent Firefighters Museum at Ash in Kent.
It was a cold day in November but sunny - so thought I would discover this "little gem" of a Museum situated at the rear of the very pleasant Woodlands Garden Centre in Ash near to The Brands Hatch Motor Cicuit in picturesque Kent and just a short trip from London.
This Museum is jammed full of historic firefighters memorabilia. It is clean and tidy and has actual old fire engines that children can climb in and explore. Open 10 to 4am most days and with free admission plus a garden centre and restuarant all in the same complex - a worth while day out. !!

Morning out with my grandson.

We had a lovely morning. He enjoyed climbing on the fire engine and playing on the climbing frame. We were then able to treat ourselves to a fantastic meal in the restaurant

Great for young children

My son is 3 and absolutely loved it all- including the museum itself run solely on knowledgable volunteers. We had a lovely lady give us some information about the museum itself and about some of the items within the museum. She was also able to explain things in a way that my son would understand which was greatly appreciated as most people in museums seem to share information to an adult audience only. We happily donated before we left and my son enjoyed playing in the outdoor area in the old fire engine. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re over this way with small children who have an interest in fire engines, or if you’re visiting the garden centre and want to keep the kids happy whilst you’re there!

I took 3 of my young grandchildren here. They had a great time. Cliff one of the volunteers was very helpful and gave us lots of information on the various items used in the past.

A gem hidden away behind a garden centre.

A great little museum displaying the history of Kent firefighters since the 19th century. Tucked away in a small cabin at the back of the garden centre, very friendly curators keep watch over the items. From badges and insignia through to a mock up 1890s fire engine complete with horse drawn pump.
Definitely Italy come and have a look around, its sure to peak anyone's interest.

Excellent collection and well set out.

Adults and children enjoy a visit to the museum. It is staffed by volunteers who are retired firemen and make it very interesting talking about the display. Everything is so well displayed even the toddlers can see the exhibits easily. The kids also love climbing on the old fire engine in the grounds.

Great venue

Have not been to this venue for a few years and was surprised by how much it has grown. The volunteer staff are friendly and knowledgeable and have good fire brigade banter. Thanks for entertaining my guests and myself and I will return soon with my grandchildren.

Great little museum with really passionate staff! Little one loved it and we will be back!!
Remember to take a picnic or visit at weekend for the little cafe as the restaurant near wasn’t very welcoming to families but that is not the museums fault!
