Yes it's touristy with shops and buildings slanted to be public drawcards but it must be the biggest gong in Isaan and maybe all of Thailand. The two temples are appealing, the big greyish-white one caught my eye but sadly it's not open inside Maybe it's not akl finished yet. There is a good viewpoint for the 2 colour river and the Mekong in general and if you follow the path down the hill you will come to a pleasant temple in a cave Definitely worth a visit if you are not put off by the deliberately commercial which is common in Thailand. Maybe that's the challenge for the serious believer.

Truly beautiful place. We visited here on way to the Mekong River hotel.
I didn't know it was here but suddenly we saw these all white towers of the Temple gleaming in the sunlight and then this huge gong came into view. It looked like a fairytale. We walked around the site for a good hour but we couldn't unfortunately stay longer and go inside the Temple. There were some lovely views from here of the Mekong/Mun Rivers and it's a beautiful spot well worth visiting
We walked around

The focal point of a visit to this wat are the views across the Mekong to Laos. We came at sunset and were very impressed. The way is only around ten minutes walk up a staircase from Khong Chiam town.

We went there as a review had talked about the special pagoda (chedi) as well as the magnificent view from the wat. The view is nice. The walk down to the ashes of the monk as well as the Buddha antechamber is also nice but what is most striking is the large gong (rakang) at the entrance. The way itself does not have particular charm but it’s worth a short stop if you’re in the area, for example, if going to Wat Sirindhorn Wararam or to see the two-color river viewpoint (which is 5 minutes away).

From Wat Tham Khuha Sawan (Monastery of the Heavenly Cave) you have a beautiful view of the confluence of the Mun and the Mekong Rivers, locally known as Maenam Song Si (two colours river), pointing out the blending of the brown waters of the Mekong and the blue/green waters of the Mun. There is an elevated platform that can be reached by stairs, showing you a great panorama. Just take attention as the handrail is missing. Additionally do not forget to take also the stairs down to reach the rock cave of which the temple derived its name.

Went here with my friend to see the temple. Very nice place to see over the Mekong River into Laos. To understand the reason for the temple there are three wood benches overlooking the river. The story of the Buddhist Monk who lays to rest their. I like this temple and is a awsome place to visit.

We nearly passed by this large overview stop, but got sucked up by the novelty of the massive gong (largest in Thailand? largest in the world?). There is also an attractive white temple that will remind some of the white temple in Chiang Rai. The views of the confluence of the Mekong and Mun Rivers, and across into Laos, are very pleasant.

Visited today & what a stunning Wat this is, there is a huge gong outside eith lots of flag emblems & the Wat is really beautiful. It was worth the drive over from Ubon. Luckily we managed to avoid the large bus tour that had visited just prior to our arrival. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
