I didn’t know what to expect going into this, but I was blown away. Kevin is the right mix of entertaining, friendly, and highly knowledgeable that allows you to really gain a deep appreciation of one of the most biodiverse locations on the planet, the role it plays, and how it has been shaped by the history of Maui. The views are incredible too. Make sure to get a pano at the top!

This tour is amazing, definitely one of the highlights in Maui. I've done the tour twice so far and am planning on going back. Kevin is extremely knowledgeable about Hawaiian ecology, history, and traditions. Besides seeing the amazing views, you get to learn a lot about the ecology of the Hawaiian islands, native vs. invasive species, and get a next level understanding of what's going on with the islands. Each time I've taken this tour I feel like my understanding of Hawaiian ecology and way of life has leveled up and it's helped me develop a lot more empathy and connection to the place.

The tour was, simply, great. Kevin's love for the island comes through with this tour. His passion and knowledge are impressive to say the least. My family had a private tour, and we absolutely loved the intimacy. This tour shows you a part of Maui you might have never seen before, with history and stories you might not have heard before. Kudos to Kevin and HeleWai Eco Tours.

Very knowledgeable guide. Quite informative. While I wouldn’t necessarily term it a “hike” (more like a stroll) it was well worth it and something I would definitely do again.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We have done a ton of activities on Maui and other vacations, but this is one of our favorite experiences. Checks all our boxes, eco-friendly, learning experience, amazing outdoor vistas, a little exercise and soulful. Learned a ton from our guide, Kevin, whose knowledge and passion for the land is vast. The hike is not too strenuous, except after heavy rains (we went a few days after a huge storm), when it is a bit slippery in spots. My 78-year-old mom negotiated it with just a little hand holding in the slickest parts of our descent.

We have been coming to Maui for more than 20 years and I must say this is the best experience that combines a nature hike (with breathtaking views) with first hand explanation of the evolution and eco-system of the island. Kevin combines his knowledge with an amazing sense of humor as he walks you through the ecological history and the importance of preservation. Even if you are on a short trip, it is definitely worth doing it.

If you're the type of person who cares about the environment, loves the outdoors, and cares to learn about beautiful Maui and what its land has to offer, then this is the tour for you.

What an amazing and stunning learning experience! Our stellar guide, Kevin, gave us such a fun and educational tour while sharing important information about the Pu'u Kukui watershed and how it supports the island. We also learned so much about the native trees and plants. It was fascinating and beautiful to say the least. And what's remarkable is this land has never been open for touring ever before and Kevin has sole access!

We didn't know what to expect when signing up for this tour, but we were genuinely blown away. We would highly recommend this for any age (we brought our teenager and she loved it- she even got to swing from vines!).

Don’t miss out on this!

I've lived on the island for 10 years and Kevin thought me a lot about what I thought I knew about the island. He was super friendly and super informative. The views and landscape is absolutely incredible. You should do it too. Don't think about it. Just do it.

I live here on Maui and work on a different part of this mountain and went here as part of work but I am so glad I did. I found Kevin's tours and thought it would add to the experience I give my guests and I was definitely correct. Kevin has so much knowledge of Maui and especially this area. The hike was not too much and amazing things to see along the way. This area is one that few people ever see.

This was a very informative and refreshing tour! It's great to see that there are things being done about preserving the beauty that did and does make Maui a paradise. Kevin was very knowledgeable, easy going and had a sense of humor. I recommend coming to enjoy the scenery but also to learn about the importance of preserving native species. To ensure the best ecosystem for the mountain and ocean.
