A great little county museum, with very friendly and helpful staff.

Our day out in Llandrindod was patchy, as the Cycle Museum and many shops were closed, it being a Wednesday. The museum was open and free to visit, as most museums used to be! A fascinating collection, very well presented with lovely, helpful staff, very much the highlight of a day in the town. If you like museums of the 'old school' you'll love this one!

Me and my partner visited 24th of July it was such an eye opener to see so many different things from way back in the past this shop is a wonderful experience especially for the younger generation it's also got homemade cakes jams soaps jumpers bags rugs all sorts you can purchase not even that expensive with a seating area and a play area for the children well worth a visit

Spent a really interesting 20 minutes nosing around the museum. Just a shame we weren’t able to stay for the tea and cakes!

What a wonderful amazing place. Just couldn't get over the incredible collection of goods. Just wow. We also went to the attached tea shop. Talk about made with love. Everything home made. Generous portions and the most delicious homemade cakes. Dog friendly. You sit in the garden. I couldn't fault the visit. Lovely helpful couple who own it.

A Unique Step Back in Time
Aug 2020 • Family
We stopped off at the Thomas Shop on our way up to Devil’s Bridge and so glad we did. Due to COVID there are a few changes and precautions in place, but this did not spoil our enjoyment. The old shop museum is fascinating and really takes some studying. The craft area upstairs is also interesting. After looking around we had hot chocolates and tea and cakes in the garden, next to the river. Children really rated the hot chocolates. We had a very pleasant time and will be back again. Parking is limited but usually there is a space available.

Excellent find
Oct 2019 • Couples
Absolutely loved it. Great museum which is the shop, but also great buildings which they renovated. We were lucky enough to speak with the owner who told us what he knew about the buildings and about the Thomas family. There is the shop, then upstairs was a gentleman's outfitters which has the fittings. There are crafts for sale. The cafe is in what was the laundry. Parking is round the back and there you find the entrance. We were welcomed and would highly recommend.

So much to look at and enjoy in this trip down memory lane with an authentic old days shop and much else collected by the owner: delicious cakes and beverages and a selection of interesting things to buy.

A tasty and fascinating find
Sep 2019
We fell over this place and it was all we were hoping for and more. I felt exactly as the most positive reviews here. To manage expectations however, I would stress it is a family home the tea room of which is front housed by one man so bus loads of visitors might not find it sufficiently commercialised. For people like us: females aged 60 and 86 and a male 58 it was delightful and I could have spent hours peering into all the atmospheric nooks and crannies as well as eating their tasty homemade cakes. Little ones would need careful supervision for their own and the owners benefit, although there was some provision for childish play, possibly private family ones outside and there was a tea room inside that we did not get round to exploring. They do B&B too, but we did not stay. Will definitely revisit on our next trip north. Open April to October.

A walk into the Good old Days
Aug 2019 • Family
It's almost as if the past has never moved. A wonderful place to spend quality time and reflect. This museum encaptures the days before big soleless supermarkets when customers were known by name and life was more personal. Oh and tea and cake what a little gem. Well worth seeking out..

Hidden gem
Aug 2019 • Couples
What an amazing place - shop, museum, tea shop all in one fascinating place. So much local history is preserved in the shop and surrounding buidings. Museum items sit alongside craft items for sale in a beautifully displayed mix. And great cake! It's definitely worth a dedicated visit.
