A friend and I spent the whole day walking here and it was lovely! Good paths, lovely open space. Will definitely come back again.

Stunning scenery spoilt by litter
Oct 2019 • Family
Beautiful place to visit and walk. Viewpoints with car parking spaces overlooking the stunning scenery. However it was clear that some cretins had used the car parks for drinking, eating crap and letting off fireworks. There are no bins but that is no excuse. Take your rubbish back with you and put in your own bin, you took it there in the first place. Don’t spoil it, behave like animals and not humans.

Nice visitors centre great plant sale
May 2019 • Couples
Saw the plant sale advertised on FB so decided on a trip out. Got there as it opened & was amazed at how busy it was . A large queue as it opened & lots of cars waiting to park . Great variety of plants . Well organised , boxes provided to carry your plants . Well worth the trip then off to town centre for coffee

& cake

Great place to walk
Feb 2019 • Friends
This is a beautiful place to walk with stunning views once you get to the high points. The paths are quite well worn and there are sign posts so it’s quite an easy place to walk.

It’s very blustery on the tops so take something to protect your ears.

Marsden moor very moreish
Jan 2019 • Solo
Marsden Moor is loved by locals and visitors alike. Just a short stroll (half an hour or so) from the village and you’re at scenic Eastergate. Head up the Packhorse Way and it’s partly paved with old flags over the tops and up to the streams and reservoirs with far reaching views in all directions.
Pick up some walk leaflets at the National Trust centre in the Old Goods Yard carpark or Marsden Library and you’re guaranteed an awesome walk! Make sure you take waterproofs and wear suitable footwear/clothing...you will get the weather!

Beautiful Remote and very windy
Jun 2018 • Family
Walk on the wild side. This is a beautiful and very lonely part of the countryside not far from our home. We regularly walk the dog and enjoy some quiet time up here, Winderness, well not quite but you might not meet many people up here. Beautiful.

Fabulous moorland
Jul 2018 • Friends
Marsden Moor is a superb place to get lost in history and wild life. Much of this area, south and west of Huddersfield is as bleak as it ever was but the scenery and the views are terrific.

Walks centred around Marsden are safe and well described, but other walks, along part of the Pennine Way for example, are to be recommended.

Some walks are easy, but some are difficult and need proper all-weather clothing. There are plenty of maps and information points in the village itself, so do plan ahead.

Lots of different grades of walks. Fab for kids
Sep 2018 • Family
We did a short circular walk suggested by a guide that we picked up from Holmfirth Library.

It started at Brun Reservoir (free car park) and went towards Redbrook Reservoir before turning towards Thieves Clough. The estate office near Marsden railway has route maps.

There were 5 of us ranging from 41 to 2 years old and we all made it around. Not too challenging yet a good 4-5 miles and some climbs. A great day meant the views were brilliant.

Would recommend this walk if you have small kids and I know there are much more challenging walks for different grades of walkers.

Stunning views
Jul 2018 • Family
Fabulous walk taking in 7 reservoirs. Variety of scenery, moors, rocky outcrops, streams and reservoirs. Lovely picnic spots. However, spilt by a couple of dog walkers with about 9 dogs who did not have the under control and were rude when we asked them to get them away from us and our food. Seems the National Trust is not for everyone as they said they take their dogs there every day so it's not for people who visit once a year.
