I have just been lucky enough to attend the Onyx 2021 La Plagne winter camp (just before everything locked down again), and can honestly say I had an absolute blast! The Alpoholics chalet we all stayed in was top notch. Lovely food, great facilities, and friendly staff. Everyone attending the camp was of the same mindset and really wanted to progress their snowboarding and have a great time. This coupled with the top notch Onyx instructors meant that everyone in the camp came out stronger snowboarder and had really stepped up their game.
Personally I thought the instruction and coaching was professional and well structured. Geared to help everyone undertand and progress in bite-sized chunks, and delivered in a fun way at a pace which worked for all.
If you can ride a snowboard and want to move to the next level in your ridiing I 100% recommend Onyx Snowboard camps!

Had a great week learning how to snowboard with Baden. An amazing guy and an even better instructor who pushes you to the limit and builds up your confidence. Thank you so much.

I've had about 6 private lessons with Baden over the back end of the 13/14 season on the slopes of Morzine and also Avoriaz to prepare me for my BASI L2 instructor course/exam that took place in April 2014.
Firstly Baden is a top guy. He's a very fun, positive person to be around which ensures that the lessons are taught with a great atmosphere.
He's got bags of energy and tailored my private individual lessons perfectly. We worked on steeps, bumps, freestyle, variable snow (powder/choppy stuff) and piste performance.
As a trainee Instructor I was also lucky enough to do some 'shadowing/mentoring' with Baden and saw how well he adapts his teaching styles and method to individual students needs and personalities.
I really don't think there is a better snowboard Instructor/coach anywhere in Morzine, Avoriaz or Les Gets (or even in the wider the Portes du Soleil). I've been living in Morzine the last 18 months full time so have a fair grasp on these things.
Another tip is that some ski schools employ SKI instructors who also are allowed to teach snowboarding. Whilst this instruction is often good if you want 1st Class, elite SNOWBOARD instruction then seek out a SNOWBOARD school and if your in the area then do your very best to get some instruction by ONYX.
I'm sure ONYX get booked up well in advance so get in early. I'm working in Morzine this summer so can't attend one of the ONYX Summer freestyle camps, gutted as by all accounts there pretty special.
Thanks again Baden for your expert tuition, sound advice and encouragement.
best regards
Richie

I booked this holiday as a chance to escape to the mountains without any faf and was not dippointed. Easy and stress free everything is sorted for you in one click allowing you to focus on shredding and nothing else!
Travelling alone can be a scary experience but i can honestly say I've never met such a friendly, crazy bunch of people from all walks of life all ready to shred hard and drink hard! The camp spirits were in top form and on several occasions left in tears of laughter and became and home away from home.
The chalet staff went above and beyond to allow this to happen, always friendly, took crazy antics in there stride and never let your wine glass get empty!
As an english based company this filled me with confidence that if anything went wrong i would be well looked after and i can honestly say that I've never been so greatful for the man in red to come running towards me and rescuing me after a bad fall! He got me safely of the mountain and didnt leave my side untill i got the all clear.
Two amazing coaches will push you and support you through all the ups and downs. To cheer you on when your smashing it or making you laugh when your down, your never far away from a cuddle or an over enthusiastic man doing the YMCA until your doing it down the mountain too!
All in all i couldnt have asked for a better holiday and can't wait to book on to the next one next year.
Lots of love to the onyx crew!!!

I have to admit I was a bit suspicious with all the reviews being excellent but after lots more research I decided booked a 3hr private lesson with Baden at Hemel Snowcentre and I have to say the reviews are spot on.
Baden is an outstanding instructor, his hints and tips and analogies make learner so much productive and I am a far better rider for it.
I progressed so much, not only did I recommend Baden to a friend (who agreed), I have booked on to two more courses in December in Avoriaz and January in Morzine!

I had a week of advanced group lessons with Onyx Snowboarding in Avoriaz and Morzine this winter and had a great time.
My snowboarding improved massively over the week; we started off by looking at and tweaking our on-piste riding technique and then throughout the week had an amazing time riding off-piste powder, and shredding the halfpipe and park.
One of the highlights would definitely have to be successfully trying all of the features in The Stash that I’d previously been too scared to attempt!
I’ve also been on several of the UK tramp2snow and freestyle camps as well and always come away having progressed and learnt new tricks and having had a ridiculously fun time thanks to the excellent coaches.

Until the day I met Baden on the slopes I wasn't sure I was going to go through with it. The Wednesday before travelling I had removed a cast from my wrist after six weeks - broke it on my previous attempt to snowboard. In the run up of the lessons, Baden was available and patient with all my questions about wrist guards. The day I met him I decided to give it a go and it was amazing! My snowboarding improved loads, he listened to my challenges and thought of different ways to overcome it (coming off ski lifts was a particular one), and overall just made the experience really enjoyable. When it's time for my daughter to start snowboarding, I hope Baden is available to teach her!

Dear Onyx / Baden,
I just wanted to thank you for your lesson today. I feel much more confident in boarding and this was down to your assistance.
Baden was so encouraging, supportive and knowledgeable as well as using terms I understood and similes linked to my career to try and help my understanding more.
I hope you take great pride in seeing your students progress and take enjoyment from their sometimes spectacular falls!
Once again, can’t thank you enough.
Having had a lesson yesterday, I felt so much more confident today on the slopes. I wasn’t holding up my more experienced skiing friends as much and we all had a great day on the slopes.
With your help, you’ve made a trip into the alps, into a holiday. Thank you thank you thank you!
Who knows, may even see you in March for one of your camps!

I contacted Onyx for a one-on-one snowboarding skills tune up. The idea was simple to take stock of where I'd got to with my boarding, correct bad techniques and have a mess around with a bit of advice and pointers.
The time spent totally delivered and I've came out of the session with a a very clear understanding of what I want to work on and where I can take the snowboarding.
If this is coming across a bit serious, then please, that's certainly not the vibe I took away. I had a lot of fun in the session and will definitely book more in the future.
cheers
James

We booked private lessons with Onyx for our trip to Morzine/Avoriaz. Baden is an amazing coach. He was able to understand our different learning styles within our first few minutes on the learning slope, which meant he was able to quickly and effectively build our technique and confidence...even with the ice and wind! It is a testament to his teaching that I was able to go from being a novice to turning by the end of the first lesson. We even got a couple of tricks in! The Onyx website refers to lessons with passion and personality - spot on! It really does make a difference being taught by someone so enthusiastic and full of passion for his sport…not to mention a cracking personality. His Arnie impressions are outstanding and couldn't get enough of the random song outbursts! I've already recommended Onyx to my friend for switch and freestyle riding and I would have no hesitation recommending them to anyone else. Thank you for a truly memorable experience! Until next time :)
