Easily signposted and plenty of free parking. Great for half a day out, lots of snakes and reptiles to see, the gardens are lovely. The staff are friendly and during the holidays they do informative shows with snakes and crocs. The handsome chap who does the shows obviously loves the reptiles and the show was very informative,( in French). There are trampolines, go carts and an indoor play adventure area for the youngsters. Our group aged between 10 and 80 all had a great afternoon.

We visited this recently June 2014 while on holidays in the area. It advertised snakes and a butterfly farm along with dinosaurs (large reproductions). The charge was 12.50 euro each adult, I cannot recall the charge for children. We felt it was very over priced, its wasn't very well run and while there were some snakes it was poorly laid out. There only appeared to one breed of butterfly and while it was nice to wandered round the gardens outside it certainly wasn't worth the entrance fee. Much better to spend 15 euro and spend the whole day at the zoo in La Palmyre just some 20 minutes up the road.

Like so many reviewers before us, we visited Planet Exotica only to be disappointed by the changes made to the once beautiful Jardins du Monde. The vivarium was interesting, the butterflies lacking in numbers and species and the orchids decidedly faded. The Japanese/Bonsai expo remains worth seeing but the rest of the gardens did not merit the 12 Euros 50 entrance fee. The children we saw running around certainly were enjoying the dinosaur models which to us seemed a ploy to entice families to visit. It is not really a value for money experience. What a shame.

What a horrific place to take anybody, not just children. Don't take your children here, go to zoo palmyre instead. The exhibitions are scruffy, the go karts are all smashed to bits, not a single one was working, the big goat in the petting area was aggressive to my two children, we have lots of animals at home and vast experience with goats, this one was too aggressive to have in a petting area. The petting area is also overgrown with nettles, not ideal for children! There was broken glass all through the bamboo forest. The palaeontology pit was full of broken paintbrushes with sharp edges. Half the dinosaurs paint has fallen off. The carp are swimming around in an algae infested lake. The trampolines didn't open until 11:30, why weren't they open on opening? The children's play area is a death trap. It cost us 45 euros to go in when we could have gone to zoo palmyre instead and had a wonderful time. When we questioned the director, his response was terrible. He just kept smiling at us, never said sorry, no apology, nothing. He doesn't seem prepared to listen or fix any of the issues, apparently as director it is not his responsibility, so I would suggest you don't take your children there!

We are regular visitors to Royan and we wanted to bring our children to the Jardin du Monde which we have previously visited lots of times. The last time ever came (2012), there was the addition of many inflatables for kids. It seemed a little out of character, but we understood that the gardens needed to attract a wider audience.

Alas, this year the attraction had been rebranded into Planet Exotica. It is basically the same attraction, with less staff, the grass not being cut and the plants unattended. What was truly awful was the 200 year old bonsai trees have been moved out of the greenhouse to outside and have been left to grow without care. It is such a shame to see these trees which have been cared by many different people for so long have been moved to the sidelines.

The tropical house now is home to a wide array of snakes and reptiles. I must admit the collection is a good one, with many venomous snakes to view and a good selection of crocs, alligators and turtles.

Thank goodness that there was one inflatable bouncy house left for the kids to play on and some trampolines, else they would have been bored. Of the go karts, only one was in a safe working order.

There is a bar at the reception area. For food, we managed to secure the last few bags of chips. The beer (pression) was good.

All in all, the place looks as though it had been recently bought as a short term money maker. However, I doubt the owners will make their fortune from this attraction in its current state. A real shame that Royan's jewel in the crown has been allowed to fall into this state.

Visited on a day when the weather forecast was mixed. Great variety of activities which ended up keeping our kids aged 3 and 6 entertained all day. Reptiles, play areas, pedal go karts, Indian village, gineau pig island, little farm with goats you can feed and a random bar! The kids loved the Dino park the best and we couldn’t get them away. Got a discount t from where we were staying as wasn’t cheap but certainly worth it.

I was surprised by planet exotica, I had thought it would be a very small reptile house but instead was almost a zoo in its own right! The price is a little high 15 euro for anyone over 14 I think! But you do follow through a mini jungle of reptiles on display, with info as to their diet and extinction, very well explained. Some very unusual crocodiles, spiders, lizards etc. Once you finish within the reptile area you carry on to an inidian village with reconstructed tepees, very interesting. You also get a farm animal paddack with goats and horses and go karts for all ages. The gardens are very pretty, particularly the zen garden. As you travel near the end you follow through Dino land, a series of close to real size dinosaur statues which were interesting to see. They also moved and roared! You leave the zoo through a small museam like experience and also get to watch into the baby animal incubators and lab very interesting again!! There is a cafe offering a good range of basic food out and drinks. Shows were also held based on the snakes!
Can't fault this place, very very interesting with so much to see would spend hours easily with any age group. For those who Complained about people not speaking English.. Hello it is France! Don't be so expectant for the world to know your specific language!
Brilliant cultural experience wigh a lovely beach and seaside town royan near by!

A lot of snakes but many are very similar with seemingly plastic plants in the cages...
The dinosaurs were very popular but uncared for and with missing parts. Also very unrealistic (especially in size).
The only place where the kids could play was on a trampoline, so not suited for very small children.

A nice walk for the family but not worth the entrance fee.
