Beautiful building

Really worth a visit, 12th century (I think) - we wondered round after eating in the adjacent town centre, some great pics. We learnt that some of it is to be developed into a 5 star hotel with a town project - will be a wow!

This was an unscheduled stop - and what a lovely surprise. Dating from the 12th century, this beautiful Abbey is a tranquil place to spend some time.

If some XIIth century churches in "romano-byzantine style" remains in the South-West of France, only 2 abbey can be visited. Souillac and Fontcombaud where are the graves of Richard Lion Heart and his relatives . So if you are near Souillac don't miss this building where stone carving have been amazingly placed indoor. Free visit in English on demand, in french on tuesday and thursday at 11 and on wednesday at 3 pm from beginning of july to mid-september.

Unusual Cathedral

A massive Romanesque structure which has three large domes over the sanctuary and five octagonal chapels surrounding the apse. Quite impressive.

Good Visit
Sep 2017 • Couples
We visited this church while waiting for the museum next door to open after lunch. The detailed stone carvings were excellent. It's definitely worth the visit if you are already in Souillac.

An unexpectedly (to us) old and interesting architecture with byzantine influence. Also fascinating reliefs and carvings.
