About
Founded in 1959, the Aargauer Kunsthaus is one of the leading art museums in Switzerland. It derives its appeal in particular from its exhibition programme, in which contemporary art takes a central place, and from its outstanding permanent collection, arguably the most important public collection of Swiss art from the 18th century to the present. In 2003 the museum building was expanded based on designs by Herzog & de Meuron Architects in collaboration with the artist Rémy Zaugg. Each year the Kunsthaus presents about ten exhibitions, showcasing major national and international artistic approaches. Particular attention is also paid to young artists and to artists from the Argovian region. An innovative, wide-ranging art education programme serves to foster public appreciation, particularly on the part of a younger audience, of the exhibitions and the permanent collection, with the latter regularly being presented in new arrangements.

Besides the traditional exibitions, you can find the annual Flower to Arts exibition, that attracts a very unusual audience. Gardeners, artists, nature lovers learning to admire another art style. The permanent and the efemeral together.

The only museum in Aarau that actually has texts in English available. All the exhibitions were contemporary art. It was a nice variety of works. If you are in the area and like contemporary art then definitely visit.

Would recommend for a day out as it's relatively small or small enough to not get overly tired. Aarau is a nice play to go for a drink or two afterwards. Nice selection although from what I remember it's modern art.

This is a great museum with excellent Swiss artists from all over Switzerland and beyond. This museum is in the middle of Switzerland so it is easy reachable from wherever you stay in Switzerland. If you visit it make sure to go to Zofingen as well and walk the streets of the old town there,

The special exhibition on Augusto Giacometti is sure to please. The large room with 27 flower paintings on one wall is particularly well arranged.
