About
Rising on a small reef near the shore, this fort was built by the Benedictine nuns in 1545. It used to be known as “The nun’s fort” and it served as a nucleus of future settlement of Kastel Gomilica. Thee old wooden drawbridge was replaced by a stone bridge as the place expanded following the easing of Turkish raids.

Worth a quick visit
Sep 2019
This is a charming little "castle" even without the Game of Thrones connection.I wouldn't necessarily make a journey to visit it, but it's worth getting the bus out to Kastel Gomilica and walking the length of the Kaste.l villages along the sea front, visiting all the sites on the way and then getting the bus back. You can do this from the Split or Trogir ends (#37 bus)

Absolutely charming,a pleasure to walk round it.

Though Kastel Vitturi in Kastel Luksic is the best-preserved castle in Kastela,Kastilac is the most beautiful, the most charming of all.How could anyone not be totally captivated by this one, seemingly floating on its own island, connected to the land solely by the slender bridge? We were not disappointed.Though many of the houses in the castle(yes, some are lucky enough to live here)are lovingly restored, some parts seem to be falling apart:to me,this adds to the charm.I know that the castle is used as the city of Bravos in GOT,but it was simply the beauty of he place that led me here.

Lovely castle that people still live in. Walk over the bridge and there are houses. Very pretty quaint little place. Can walk round and go onto a jetty right on the sea. Beautiful at sunset. Very peaceful with lovely open water views.

Beautiful Architecture and The Game of Thrones was filmed here
Aug 2018 • Family
Beautiful Architecture, Historical Building and The Game Of Thrones was filmed here. Definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kastela Region. I have been here a few times and there aren't many places in the world with this architecture. Its like being transported back in time. Local people actually live inside.

No need to visit unless it's the part of a tour

This is known as Game of Thrones location.
But, it's far from the main touristic area and very quiet with very few people. I think the only time it's crowded is when the group of tourists rush in.

There is almost no proof of filming remaining. Nothing much to see. Just a good village view. 10~20 min to watch around.

The beach nearby had many local people. It looked nice, though.

Great Game of Thrones Site
Jul 2018 • Couples
If you are driving between Split and Trogir, make sure to stop at Kastel Gomilica to see a little bit of history, as well as a great Game of Thrones filming location (Braavos). This is where Arya sold oysters, clams and cockles with her wheelbarrow. Plan on about 30 minutes to see this site. This town is a seaside mini fortress with an interesting bridge connecting it to the mainland. There were no other tourists when my wife and I visited in July. Parking was free. Be quiet and respectful of the locals, who still live in these buildings.

In a rather derelict state
Mar 2018 • Couples
It is a shame not to take into account the condition of this fort, and to renovate it. As aforementioned, this is one of the location where the 5th season of Game of Thrones was filmed. In 2017 Kaštilac was among the 11 finalists for the best European film location.
