We are continuing 130 years of tradition of producing handcrafted cheese and dairy products on farm in Pyengana in North Eastern Tasmania. The Pyengana Dairy Farmgate Cafe provides visitors with the opportunity to see the cheese being made (weekdays only), taste the cheeses and relax on our deck or by the open fire whilst enjoying a gourmet platter, 3 cheese pizza or a delicious soup with a Tasmanian wine, beer or cider. Alternatively come and enjoy our famous devonshire tea using our own very decedent clotted cream. We offer a baby change table and playground as well as some kids menu items. We can also cater for functions, just give us a call to discuss your needs, we are happy to work with you to make your next function fabulous.

The cheese was vey good but the restaurant was a bit of a mess and with a little more care could have been much better. No cheese tasting was offered although there were signs indicating it was possible . The plattrs of food were just okay but what a shame the room, which is quite good was such a mess.

Staff were welcoming and friendly. Chef was very attentive and noticed we were sharing a meal then brought out separate plates. We had the full breakfast which was delicious. Eggs cooked perfectly, hollandaise sauce was subtle and bread with butter was amazing. Watching the milking process was interesting and informative and finished off watching cheese making and a small free cheese tasting. Would have purchased cheese to take home if we had the correct storage on the Motorbike. Enjoyed our visit 😁

The Pyengana Dairy Factory is definitely worth a stop on your trip through Tasmania. We visited on a weekend so we didn't get to see any milking or cheese making occuring, but we were able to taste all the cheeses available (for free!) and had lunch at the cafe. They have quite a variety of cheeses and it was difficult to choose which/how many to buy.

My other half loves coming here, not only to relax and soak in the beautiful countryside, she reckons that they make the best coffee ever (must be the fresh milk). If you are a cheese lover then this is the place for you, we saw lots of people sampling a cheese platter with a wine or two. Also this place is very kids friendly, a lovely playground and of course nothing beats the novelty of seeing the cows coming home to be milked.

Only a short drive from St Columba's Falls - so you can stop in for a guilt-free coffee. We are unable to view any cheese making demonstrations (due to Christmas break) and no tasting either (COVID related). We enjoyed some coffee, milkshakes and a cheese platter (which was large enough for all 6 of us to share). Picnic tables available with magnificent views down the valley and green grazing pastures.

After being recommended to us, we stopped here for a late afternoon lunch on the way to at Helen’s. What an absolute gem. We got a cheese platter & scones to share, which we enjoyed overlooking rolling hills. We had toddlers in tow who loved seeing the cows. There is also a small play area for kids. Eating with young kids can be challenging but this was such a stress free experience as they could run free and we didn’t have to worry about them breaking anything or bothering other diners. We couldn’t go past getting an ice cream before leaving - which was also delicious. Highly recommend for families, but also a lovely spot to enjoy a coffee or beverage with just adults too.

Small place out in the middle of nowhere. Stopped here to check out there cuppa and novelty shop. Had a lovely cup of tea with beautiful scones, jam and real cows cream. Bought a takeaway cheese plater to have for lunch later on. Very nice. Very busy spot with lots of visitors coming and going. Would recommend this stop for anybody passing by. Able to observe cheese being made onsite.

When you stop at the Pyengana Cheese shop, make sure you go out the back to see the dairy. The cattle wander in and out of their own accord, being milked and supplement feeding as they do so. Even got to see some not very ladylike pushing and shoving to get at the feeders while we were there!! And oh, the "back scratcher"!!

Well set up. Lots of information about the milk and cheese. Well worth taste testing.
Love the iced coffee and ice cream. Have to sit out the back at the outside tables. Great views. Friendly staff.
