This Dam is located on the way of Hyderabad-Srisailam Road. People who all are travelling from Hyderabad can visit this place by taking 10 min Halt here. If you are travelling by Public transport or State Transport bus then you need to comedown to @15 km from Srisailam bus stand.

This Dam is constructed across Krishna River on the boarders of Mahbub Nagar and Kurnool districts. One side Telangana district of Mahbub nagar and another side Andhra district of Kurnool. This is located in Andra pradesh and is part of Kurnool district. Dam has total 12 gates and if you visit during gates open time it will be great experience.

This Dam construction was started in 1960 and completed in 1981 and this is second largest working capacity hydroelectric station in the country.

The Srisailam Dam is a manmade marvel that has become one of the main tourist attractions of the area. Surrounded by beautiful nature all around, the dam offers wonderful views during monsoon season when all the gates are open. The excellent greenery all around, the sound of the water gushing through and the rhythmic fall of water makes it a haven for nature lovers. However, visitors should avoid travelling on the Hyderabad- Srisailam road during night as this particular route remains closed to traffic overnight from 9 pm to 6 am.

This is second largest working capacity hydroelectric station in the country and build in two decades, situated between A.P. & Telangana states .The Srisailam Dam is constructed across the Krishna River in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana and Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh near Srisailam temple town. It's a relaxing stoppage after few hour's running from Hyderabad to Shrisalam or vice versa. Good to be there.

Visited with family and friends. Fantastic view of the water flowing from the dam when gates are open. Check news before you move, whether Gates are open or not. Public are not allowed on the dam. Better to go by evening so that you can have a glimpse of the dam in night lighting, which is not to be missed.

This dam is on the way to Swamy Mallikarjuna Temple. Luckily few gates of the dam were open when we visited Srisailam. It was very beautiful but scary too. Water was flowing on a very high speed and huge amount that we were able to see rainbows. We were able to feel splash of water in the bus. Water get accumulated downside as a river. I was able to see small small boats in the river. I think those were fishermen and were catching the fishes. There is a small bridge to cross the river. The whole scenery was very beautiful and mesmerizing.

Pick up a bike go right after monsoon or during the monsoon. Check the fuel, give the bike for service. Step on the gas go vroom. Great place for a small trip if you stay in hyderabad. Take the Airport road. Road has been laid out pretty good.

Start as early as you can. we started around 4:30 Am . Perfect time to get beautiful pictures and if the weather is right by your side, you are in for a wonderful ride

We started from Hyderabad, Kondapur at 2:30 AM morning and as it was raining slightly we were driving at a slow but steady pace. We were 6 of us on 3 bikes. We crossed the Airport and by morning we had hit the NH and were 150 km away from Srisailam. At around 7:00 AM we reached the Srisailam by-pass and stopped for breakfast at Balaji Restaurant and is a must visit as this was the only restaurant where the food was delicious on the whole trip. We crossed the Jungle way at around 9-10 and that was the main attraction with beautiful views of forests.
We reached there at 11:00 AM and started searching for a place to stay as we were totally exhausted. A warning if you have not done any reservations in the only stay i.e. Haritha. It took us 2 hours to find one but were very cheaper 400/- each room.
We visited the famous Mallikarjuna temple the waterfall, ropeway, Pathaleswara etc but missed the shikara ride as it was late already.
After the night's stay we checked out the place a little and started around 9:00 AM. At the way back we visited the Uma Maheswari temple which takes about 9 KM en-route and reached Hyderabad by 7:00 PM.

A. Srisailam Dam is constructed on Krishna river which flows through the forests of Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve
B. The dam is located about 20 Kms from Srisailam on the Hyderabad – Srisailam Highway. From Hyderabad, the dam is at a distance of about 220 Kms.
C. After bifurcation of the State of A.P. (into Telengana and Andhra), the dam is actually the border between the 2 states.
D. There are a couple of spots on Telengana side from where the tourist can have a view of the Srisailam dam. Similarly there are spots on Andhra side from where the view of the dam is good.
E. The upstream portion of the dam is in Andhra while the downstream portion is in Telengana.
F. The Srisailam dam is one of the largest water storage reservoirs in India and is used for supply of water for irrigation (to both Telengana and Andhra)
G. The Srisailam Hydro Electric Power Station (located adjacent to the dam) generates power and has an installed capacity of 1760 MW.
H. From Patalala Ganga (at Srisailam town) on the Andhra side, one can go on a boat cruise for about 20 ~ 30 minutes. And they take you near the dam.
I. Also on the downstream side of the dam (Telengana side), one can go in Coracle and watch the dam from close when the dam gates are closed.
J. When the dam gates are open, it is an amazing sight to watch the water gushing out with a high velocity. One can also feel the water particles on their faces as the high speed of the water results in some kind of atomization.
K. The ropeway from the temple area to Patalaganga (in Srisailam) is also an attraction
L. The temple town of Srisailam is famous for the Mallikarjunaswamy temple (one of the Jyotirlings across the country), Brahmaramba Temple, Sakshi Ganapati Temple, Paladhara Panchadhara water falls (where Adi Sankaracharya is believed to done penance and written Sivananda Lahiri) and Akka Mahadevi Caves.

In April this year, I visited Mallikarjun. The journey was very nice. The Bus service of APSRTC is very good. But they should start AC bus services too.
We visited Mallikarjun 3 days before Ugadi festival so it was fully crowded.
We were lucky to get a room in the Ganga Sadan ran by the Temple Committee.
The AC room was very clean and cheap.
One thing I must complain is about the system of Avisekham. They charge Rs. 1000/- per head but a pilgrim can hardly allowed to perform Avisekham for 10 seconds. They just hold the neck and push out pilgrims.
