About
Our school offers high-quality kitesurfing and wing foiling in Antigua. We offer tuition with IKO certified instructors (International Kitesurfing Organization) with the latest and safest equipment. We are located in Nonsuch Bay, on the windward shore of Antigua, in the Caribbean, where the trade winds blow strong and constant. The bay is completely closed by the reef and offers a condition of warm and flat water, ideal to learn and progress. Updated equipment, newest teaching methods and power boat assistance make the best combination for your perfect learning experience. The lessons will start from the beach of Green Island, a tiny island windward to Nonsuch bay, with white sand and crystal blue water; a perfect landing/launching area for kites.

I highly recommend 40 knots kitesurfing school! Max and his team of instructors are very professional and have a real passion for their sport. I booked a week of lessons for my two teenagers and Max assigned an incredible instructor named Noel to teach them. Noel was incredible - very patient and had a clear and effective way of explaining the techniques to my kids and they made incredible progress. My son (14) had only flown a kite on the beach once or twice before this trip and in 4 lessons Noel had him kiting, doing transitions and even small jumps! Incredible. Max was very accommodating to my needs as well as I only had two kites which were the wrong size for most of the wind conditions. He rented me his kites and a board which decreased the amount of equipment I had to bring on the trip. The location on Green Island is absolutely amazing. The outer reef provides a barrier to the waves so you get incredible flat water conditions while still getting all the benefits of the consistent trade winds blowing through the area. We all had an incredible time and we hope to be back again soon.

We are currently sailing around the world in our little old sailboat, and this was one of our favourite experiences in recent memory!
I'd had a couple of brief attempts at kiting in the past in other locations, but here with 40knots was the first time I've the basics taught properly. Me and my partner were both riding on the board within the first couple of sessions! We couldn't believe it!
The location is perfect. A barrier reef protects the kiting area from swell and the consistent winds arrive clean from the sea. The water is warm and the sun is usually shining. If you happen to be sailboat cruiser, you can actually anchor within rowing distance of the school.
The instruction was excellent, completely personalised, and a lot of fun! We have met several of the team during our time here and they are all incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and humble.
All in all, this must be one of the best places in the world to learn kiteboarding or wing surfing. When we leave Antigua we'll take an exciting new skill with us, big smiles, and memories of this place to last a lifetime. Thanks 40knots!

We visited 40 Knots for the second time in December 2023 and had an amazing experience. Max, Nadine, Michael, and Ivan were all totally fantastic. They were very flexible at accommodating our schedule and the quality of the instruction was excellent. I'd recommend 40 Knots to anyone who wants to improve their kitesurfing.
We've taken lessons at other locations, and I can honestly say that 40 Knots has the best location by far to learn this sport.

I’m afraid this operation can only receive a 1 star review given their policy of charging 100% for a lesson should you not be able to attend even if there is a medical emergency or extenuating circumstances, for example if you get ill or break a bone. It is outrageously expensive at nearly US $400 for 2 hours kiting. I would caution against booking a lesson with these rogue operators. Also there are shallow reefs with big sea urchins which they won’t warm you about until you are in the water. I recommend you avoid and don’t book.

Dear Voyager745985,
for 3 times you cancelled your lesson last minute and for 3 times we were (too) accommodating and rescheduled it.
You forgot to mention, unintentionally we are sure, that, in the end, you DID NOT pay for the lesson.
You know, even the most patient individuals get eventually annoyed in front of arrogant, snobbish and cocky customers.
Showing a bit of respect for people trying to do their jobs goes a long way.
Still, since we are not rancorous people, we want to wish you all the best for the medical emergency: your wife's pinky toe.
Luckily that's the only bone that (maybe) broke in the all story.
Such extenuating circumstances and unbearable stress for you.
Disclaimer: no animals were ever harmed, sea urchins are enjoying their peaceful lives, very far from the kiting area and, lucky them, never had to deal with Voyager745985.

I have kite boarded for years, the lesson experience at 40 knots was second to none. My 13 year old daughter was on her board by lesson three. Great staff, great gear, great location

Wow what a morning. Thank you to the team @ 40knots for the efficient organisation, collecting me by boat, fast set up of equipment and we were out kiting off the beautiful green Island. Luca my instructor was brilliant and has given me the confidence to start enjoying kiting again and had me jumping straight away. Private lessons with an instructor in a boat really is the fastest way to learn. Thanks 40knots keep up the good work.

Full disclosure: I'm an experienced kiter and did not use 40 Knots' services. But I was at Green Island on my boat a couple of days during the past 2 weeks with my own gear, and I want to give a shout out to Ivan, who was an exemplary ambassador for this outfit. Not only did he welcome me on the school's tiny beach, but he graciously offered to launch and land my kite every time I needed it. Ivan was courteous, friendly, professional and always ready to lend a helping hand. Kudos to 40 Knots for hiring a great instructor who represents their operation so well, and to Ivan for his friendly and unassuming attitude. If you're thinking of taking lessons in that part of the Caribbean, I would suggest you consider 40 Knots.

Spent a few days anchored off green island for some kiting, went to the kite beach and met Max and his team, they were super welcoming to their awesome spot, complete with beach hut shade and dinghy moorings. Max gave us loads of information on the best kite spots in Antigua and Barbuda which made our trip. My girlfriend had a foil lesson with them which was great, very profesional school, great kit and the best location on the island. You can’t go wrong with 40 knots kiteboarding. 10/10.

We have now had 2 kite surfing lesson with 40 knots and they have been so much fun! No better way to spend a Saturday morning than in the water. Hugo and Axel are both great and very patient instructors and managed to get me and my 2 left feet up and riding by the 2nd lesson. The team are very friendly and super helpful. I would highly Recommend 40 knots to anyone wanting to learn a new sport.

Just got back from 9 days and had a fabulous time with 40 knots. Its a very quiet spot because you have to get there by boat, and it is a small beach which limits the number of people who can go there. Which means you end up having a huge kite spot virtually to yourselves - which when you are an experienced kiter makes for some great sessions. Sun and wind were in our favour which helps, but regardless the staff here were totally spot on. Great lesson with Max which really sorted out my technique, and all round support from Susie, Ivan, Corrado and Irene was impeccable - nothing was ever too much trouble. First class.

how much does the boat ride from the resort to Green island cost each time you get a ride on the boat back and forth?
Written May 20, 2018
Hello, 40knots offers the boat ride service to Green Island for kiters. The price for the way there and back plus the assistance on the beach and in the water is 40 USD for a half a day and 65 USD for the full day. For non kiters the price is 15 USD. You need to book the service in advance.

I hydrofoil kitesurf. I do not need lessons. I want to come to Antigua in March of 2019 for a few weeks. I would like to stay on the beach where i would be kitefoiling. My wife will be traveling with me. We prefer a place with a pool, and either cooking facilities or an all inclusive hotel, bungalow, cottage, or whatnot. Dont want to have to get a car if that is an option. Can you help out with our plans? Thanks.

Green island, a 5 min boat ride away, is perfect for hydrofoiling, as I found for myself in Feb this year. I didnt stay at the resort itself, but plenty of families with children of all ages were staying there - and passed a few swimming pools in-resort on way to quay for boat to green island. If you are staying on resort there is no need for car, sure the resort can arrange airport transfer (about 30 mins)
