Even those who think they know the Maribyrnong River will be surprsed by this cruise. You will see waterways that you never knew existed. The Blackbird is a a vintage boat, it is quite charming and the cruise is usually smooth.

After many years of wanting to do this trip we finally made it. Weather wise - a perfect afternoon. Things have certainly changed after living in the area 30 years ago. Peter’s commentary was so informative and interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We will be back to do the down stream cruise. Thanks Peter and Warwick.

Really good 2 hrs trip. Lots of good commentary from Captain Peter Somerville.Great company and good friends .
Spoilt only by scumbag Footscray council who are poised , ready to swoop as soon as car park clicks over the allotted time. $20 for boat trip..... $ 78 for the parasites of Maribynong Council.

The Blackbird is a sturdy boat that wears its years with pride. The skipper, Peter, knows everything about the Maribyrnong River. We took an hour's cruise and discovered many things about the river thas we never knew were there. The river is relativley placid, it's great for a cruise.

What a fabulous trip we had on the Maribyrnong River. Peter owner skipper and tour guide was so interesting and knowledgeable I could of listened to him for hours. His commentary was so informative of past history of the river and what is happening now. Lovely old boat. Nothing fancy but quaint and traditional we took our picnic lunch. His son works with him a true family business. Relaxing couple of hours most enjoyable.

We spent a delightful 2 hours cruising along the Maribyrnong on the Blackbird. Tooting & waving to the many people out enjoying the beauty of the river on a superb sunny Sunday afternoon. We learned so much about the river & surrounding area from the commentary of Captain Peter Somerville. The Blackbird is crewed by the father & son team of Peter & Warwick Somerville. They have a genuine love of the river & the history of the area. I trip on the Blackbird is a must for visitors & locals alike.

This is a wonderful way to enjoy the Maribyrnong River.
This is a quaint old boat that takes the slow lane down and up the river. What an interesting way to see a bit of Melbourne. The commentry on the surrounds added to the big picture.

We'e taken almost every other river cruise around Melbourne but had never heard of this one until our most recent trip. It's a no-frills, old fashioned family operation - very little internet presence, no capacity to take online bookings, payments only by cash.
The boat is not fancy either, but it was sturdy, clean and comfortable. There is a toilet on board, but no refreshments or even water available for purchase. The brochure, however, states that passengers are welcome to bring their own refreshments or a picnic.
The commentary on the outward leg of the journey was detailed and interesting, and the cruise took us through parts of Melbourne I hadn't seen before. It was extremely peaceful, tranquil and relaxing, especially on the return leg, where the commentary ceased and we just chugged along in silence.
The boat is small and there is not much shelter from the wind on days when the cafe blinds are up, so as always in Melbourne, it's a great idea to take a windproof jacket on cool days.
I thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and found it amazingly good value at $20pp for the two hour cruise (and $10pp for the one hour one, which we didn't take but will take next time).
