Lovely find

What a lovely little find! What remains of the castle is eerily beautiful and in my opinion, pretty awesome. Set in picturesque rolling countryside and the best bit...free to visit!

Beautifula nd atmospheric

This is a lovely castle in a beautiful setting with great views. Although now a ruin, you get a real feel for how the castle must have been inits hey-day. there is a carpark close by in the village (there is no parking outside th castle itself) and both the car park and castle are free.

Peaceful castle
Jul 2021
This is a great castle to visit if you want peace and quiet, there is a small free car park with only a short walk to the castle, it is a ruin but there was still plenty to explore and enjoy the views.
There were a few information boards about the castle's history and it was free to get in and dog friendly!!
Great place to visit with a picnic as it was very peaceful, we were there for a good hour and saw no other visitors, you could imagine what the castle would have looked like many years ago!!

Amazing remains of a former bishop's home
Apr 2021
We visited this castle alongside Wiston Castle nearby. While this castle is not particularly large or as intact as some others in Wales, it is still a fascinating castle with interesting history behind it. Our visit was relatively quiet with just a few families there, which gives it a more relaxing feel than a more popular site like Caerphilly. The gatehouse still inspires awe even in its ruined state, the tower provides amazing views of the surrounding countryside and the many rooms allow for a full days worth of exploring, also making you imagine the lives of those who lived there when it was a functioning building. As it is a free site you wouldn't have to pay to see it. Something that should be noted is that parking is about a 5 minute walk from the site and no toilets or other facilities are provided. Overall, a great castle worth visiting while in the area.

Well worth a visit, for a few tranquil hours.
Beautiful castle ruins, in peaceful countryside setting. No shop, cafe or toilets. We took a picnic and had a lovely time, lovely walk with nice scenery.

Wet castle
Aug 2020
On a wet day with no access to Llawhaden Castle i had a quick visit looking at the ruin and seeing a castle in misty conditions and looking cold and damp, well worth it.

Peaceful

We visited this place en route from Ireland. Somewhere to break the journey following an overnight crossing.
Nice to find somewhere that's not crawling with dogs and kids. Lovely and peaceful :)

Hidden castle gem
Jul 2019
Set within the hills, few people visit the Bishops Palace at Llawhaden which exudes an air of mystery and magic. It’s quite accessible, being a couple of miles off the A487 and has no ticketing or caretaker. The views are spectacular as with any castle and the lack of visitors makes it all very special and peaceful

Great Castle!
Aug 2019
Free entry and no people around so great for exploring. The ruins are situated on a hill with great views from the top which has stairs and is easy to access. There is enough of the castle left to get a feel of what it was like in the past and there is a good circular walk around the surrounding area (although a bit steep in parts) that takes in the church as well. Highly recommended for castle enthusiasts!
