If you enjoy a day, walking along trails, with nature all around, kayaking in the Gulf of Mexico, swimming in emerald, green water, camping, listening to wildlife, as you turn in, for the evening, then you need to plan a visit. The park staff are helpful, and friendly, and will provide you with useful information, to make your visit, more meaningful. If you enjoy visiting a State Park, then I recommend purchasing a Florida State Park Pass. I hope my vision is helpful, for your first visit. Be safe out there.

I enjoyed the beach access by kayak and then lake scenery. I would have stayed out longer but forgot enough water and food. Bring sunscreen.

Peaceful spot to chill and float right off of 30A. Rent a kayak and float away. Great walking trails to the Gulf.

Beautiful area. Interesting facts about the camp set on info boards. Nice change of pace from the hustle n bustle of the Big city tourist attraction Stuff. But wish these kind of places were advertised more. Didn’t see much in the guide books for nature trails or state/national parks.

We rented kayaks for a four hour trip and was not disappointed. Beautiful scenery was as far as the eye could see. Landing on the inlet beach was the perfect rest stop to enjoy some family time.

My daughters are beach fanatics.... so booking a place on the lagoon in Panama City Beach didn't seem to be a good way to start the trip. On our first full day, we aimed for a destination a bit further afield. We had passed Camp Helen and several other FL state parks on a trip the prior day from Panama City Beach to Destin (outlet malls).

We were pleasantly surprised by the cost ($4 for vehicle thru an unstaffed entrance).

The trip from parking lot to beach would be a bit difficult for someone with standard portable stroller or a conventional wheelchair, but was a reasonable walk in the sand for my wife and I. Trail markers indicated it was a 7/10 of a mile walk to beach. The kids beat us the the beach, but we enjoyed the sights and signs along the way.

We were pleased to find that the beach had a tidal pool that made for some safe places to get your feet wet, and a place to be "socially distanced" from other families.

I don't normally make a big deal about the washroom facilities, but for the "remote" feel of the facility/area ... it really was wonderful to find a well kept washroom that smelled and looked like they were trying to follow a "higher standard" of cleanliness during the COVID-19 period.

Signs that explained the prior usage of this property made for a more interesting trip to the beach. Compared to some things that I've seen when driving back from this park made me very happy that we made the trip.

Thank you to the park staff, and keep up the good work.

We checked the park out not knowing what to expect. It’s beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed walking along the paths and learning about the cabins and the wildlife. We hope to go back and rent kayaks or paddle boards.

Nice State Park, very clean. Loved the history but wished the buildings had been open to. Nice area to walk.

Hard to call it a hidden gem when it's the top ranked attraction in the area, but we almost skipped it -- assuming there are plenty of other places for hikes/walks. Glad we didn't! Nearer the beach, you're exploring dunes -- toward the lake, you've got paved/wooden paths that make the walk more accessible -- with a loop on the north side of 98 and great views of the lake. Kudos to the team who manages the upkeep.

What a fantastic historical gem. I'm so glad that we visited it. Only wish that some of the buildings were open for tours. Maybe next time.
