We spent about 90 minutes here reviewing the various exhibitions and enjoying looking at the planes. Very informative and the staff were very knowledgable and friendly. Our 2 year old thought it was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed all of the exhibits, videos and planes - particularly the Harriet video!
Two things I would recommend for the museum:
1) the information sheets are all very lengthy - I wonder if a briefer summary might be helpful for younger children/those with less time.
2) would like to see the shop have more gifts relevant to the exhibitions. Our 2 year old ended up with a plan he had not seen as there were no models of the planes on show.
Great visit and would recommend to young and old.

Thank you for your kind words about our operation and your constructive comment. With regard to the shop, we will be expanding the area during our forthcoming winter close down period and your suggestion about more items relative to our exhibits will be firmly taken on board. It's nice to hear we appeal to 2-year-olds!

Excellent place to visit. As soon as I arrived the volunteers were wonderfully friendly. Lots of them available to talk in all areas of the museum and extremely knowledgeable if you needed them but not at all overbearing.

I was pleasantly surprised by the expertly curated Battle of Britain hall - so much fascinating information and worth another visit just to see that. Some brilliantly interesting stories and artefacts - really paints a picture of this area during WW2.

You can get really close to the exhibits which lets you see them in great detail, and all the information you could want about them are provided. Again the volunteers come into their own here, really helping to piece together the stories and adding some fascinating insights.

I didn't get a chance to visit the shop, cafe or flight simulators but it just gives me a good excuse to go again! Would highly recommend, brilliant afternoon out.

Jacob, thank you for your kind words. We hope you will come again, there is so much to see. Take the opportunity to 'fly' the Lightning simulator and sit in the various cockpits.

After visiting RAF museums in Duxford, Cosford, London (not mention several smaller), I didn't expect to find anything new or special in Tangmere.
And yet I was very wrong!
Tangmere Aviation Museum is incomparably smaller than the aforementioned RAF "icons", but they have many original exhibits, I have not seen anywhere before (for example: some trophies from Falklands War).

My son (teenager) was also very pleased with the visit, as there were several properly arranged (in a cockpit of the plane) flight simulators. Since we visited the place towards the end of the day and it was not very busy, he spent a lot of time “fighting” in Battle of Britain - he even managed to shoot down some Messerschmitts.

However, the greatest value and undisputable asset of this Museum is about the group of wonderful volunteers working there They are polite and very helpful but they are also totally devoted to the place. They know all exhibits there and can tell you a lot of interesting things, you have never heard before, as well as they answered my questions about the place and its history.
Visit to Tangmere was absolutely unforgettable experience - thanks to the people this museum is so special and I will remember it for a long time (and hope to will visit again).

I am in my 80’s and found myself back in the days of my youth in wartime Britain.
The amount of material that has been gathered together is amazing. The volunteers who man the museum were a delight to meet and their knowledge is in surpassed.
The cafe (NAFFI) is superb although prices are somewhat higher than the 1/6p sausage chips and beans of the 1950’s.
Thank you all at Tangmere for a wounderful experience.

I can only echo the positive comments regarding this lovely little gem. I'd suggest that you really need at least 2 visits to do it justice. We only managed to digest a half of it and spent almost 2 hours there. All credit to the super friendly volunteer staff who go out of their way to give helpful background knowledge. Nothing is too much trouble. I'm sure, if people found it difficult standing, the staff would be only too willing to help out. The
" new" cafe owner is delightful and food looked really tasty. I can't speak highly enough of this museum. A treat to be able to visit somewhere interesting during this difficult period.

This is only a very small museum, with a small amount of aircraft on show, but this is more than made up by the mine of information and exhibits inside the main areas. The main exhibits are from the Battle of Britain role that Tangmere and its pilots were involved in, but there is also so much more. We spent 2.5 hours, mainly just taking in the information on show. Could easily have spent the same again. A big shout out to the volunteers and staff, totally dedicated and enthusiastic about the place. I can't recommend the place highly enough.

All of the museum is excellent with something to interest all age groups and backgrounds. Allow plenty of time to appreciate what is on offer and definitely read as much as you can as there are really interesting facts and stories even if aviation history isn’t your bag.
All the staff and volunteers were very informative and helpful, from a wide range of military and civilian backgrounds.

Lovely cafe- friendly, helpful with dietary requirements, tasty food, freshly made sandwiches, toasted or vegan paninis.
Knowledgeable volunteers, friendly, not pushy but made experience a delight. Voice of VC airman, work of French underground support, and insight on Lighting.
Helpful shop staff pointed out Lovely local art of specific planes set with clock. Mine was Lighting but also tempted by Hunter too.
Also Lovely paintings, some local artists. Great display totally captivating information made alive by volunteers.

This museum is a great Sussex Museum. My visit was one of sheer delight from the friendliness and knowledge of the staff to the exhibits. OK, this is a small museum with limited external exhibits but its what is inside that makes it all such a great place to visit. It manages to have the wartime exhibits on show with interest but also with deep respect to those who gave their lives. This is an outstanding military museum and is well worth a visit. It would be nice to have a refreshment area and maybe a few more items in the shop. would be great to have and it would be nice to see a few more items in the shop . But its their volunteers that made the trip so worthwhile. They are all a credit to the museum.
