Playa Larga or rather Caletan is a bit ramshackle and unfinished . Don’t expect perfect white beaches etc. BUT you do get a pretty beach with a few nice bars and restaurants and a great traveller atmosphere. The water is affected by the river so...More
Playa Larga is the name of the town but also an amazing beach for the locals and for tourists. Very different from the Caleton beach (also in Playa Larga). You need to know there are 2 large beaches in Playa Larga. This one is the...More
Playa Larga itself doesn't really have much to offer, but it's definitely a good stop in between other places like Cienfuegos and Viňales or Havana.

Water is brown due to soil but with 20 minute drive you can be in coral beach. Best casa's are not on internet, and only available on walk-in basis. If you reserve through airbnb or any other middle-man sites you will be paying double.

We took the Viazul bus from the station in Vedado to Playa Larga on Mar. 14, departing 10:45 a.m. Our casa particular sent a pedi-cab that met us on the highway and took us to the beach, about 10 minutes. We continued a few days later to Cienfuegos from the same spot on the highway where we were dropped. We bought the tickets three days in advance (a separate ticket for each leg of the trip) and the bus was full both days. We did not stop at Playa Giron, but were told that it is a nice spot for divers, but the beach is much better at Playa Larga, if swimming and sunbathing is what you want.
