We were in the area and wanted a few hours on the coast. We decided on Calshot as my dad was station here during his time in the RAF. The guide in the castle was soo helpful and great helping my 8 year old son with the castle "i spy" quiz. There was plenty of history about the castle to... More

Not the biggest castle by any stretch of the imagination, but we managed to spend an hour wandering around and looking out over the Solent. We were helped by a couple of things to do on the way round. An "i-spy" and a "find the rat" which my daughter enjoyed doing. Very friendly young lady in the admissions room, made... More

Thank you for your comments Gary B. There are toilets and a small gift shop at the Castle selling ice cream and souvenirs but the Activities Centre has more toilets and a bigger shop as well as a café/bar. More

We visited on a walk along Calshot, great views from the top, infact we stayed up there for some time watching the boats come in and out. Information sheet provided and it cost £3.20 each to go in which I think was a fair price. Information boards to tell you what each room was for. Definitely worth a visit. The... More

Let's face it, this is a tiny fort rather than a castle. It will take about 15 minutes to "do", and isn't very taxing. On the other hand it is well located, rather perfect, interesting and surrounded by other stuff to see and enjoy. There was a treasure hunt in the castle, which someones kids seemed to be enjoying, and... More

The information on this castle is really great and interesting - yes it is small and you won't be much longer than half an hour, but the price suitably reflects that! Excellent show of how one fort has been used and adapted over the hundreds of years from Tudor to WW2 times, with great views of the Solent and the... More

Whilst the castle itself is on the small side the low entrance fee and fantastic views made for an excellent visit. There was also plenty of info regarding the history of the site. Worth a visit for the aviation enthusiast as they will appreciate the link to flying boats and the Schneider cup.

We went to Calshot to see the castle and found out that Calshot had a very varied history through out its life time, a very interesting place to visit. We will go back and visit with are family as there is a lot for them to do in the activity centre, as well as swim on the beach or just... More

Calshot Castle was initially a Tudor structure and the basement has a really rather dismal Tudor display. Elsewhere there are displays relating to the history of the place as an RAF garrison and a lot of information of the development of Sea Planes from 1910 onwards. The views over the Solent are excellent and if you are an English Heritage... More

Thank you for your review myff2015. There are indeed more displays on the sea plane and more recent history of the property than the Tudor history and we will consider this balance when developing interpretation in the future. I'm glad you enjoyed the views! More

Worth a visit if you like castles and forts. The castle is right by the Solent and the beach. Views were wonderful. So something for everybody once you've seen the castle. It's a small castle so you will not be there for long.
