The mine "wheal Blinman" was the reason for the establishment of the town 153 years ago. The town is named after shepherd Robert "Pegleg" Blinman who discovered copper on a hill while tending his flock of sheep. Now some 150 years later the mine has breathed new life into the town, drawing people interested in history, mining, minerals and outback life. People come on tour and over the course of a little over an hour step back into time and experience a taste of life in the 1860's. Our visitors leave not only with an appreciation of the lives of the Cornish miners who settled in Blinman but also of the determination and dedication to a small (very small, just 20 people) group of people who saw the opportunity to breathe new life into a town.

Highly recommend this tour, underground mine (copper) shown by a great tour guide. Gives a picture that is hard to relate to from years ago. The hardship endured to earn a living for their families snd what they went through daily in the mines

Such a well run informative tour, great to see first hand the hardship that the Cornish miners experienced. Visited with teenage kids, they got a lot out of it too.
