This site is best visited at sunset where you see the gradual build of the fires to orange glow. In the daylight it is less impressive ( if that is correct for an ecological disaster) as the fires aren’t as visible. The yurts around are...More
Highlight of our trip to Cental Asia, camping nearby the Gas Crater, with camels investigating our tents!
Our guides and drivers made our evening meal on an open fire. Delicious kebabs and roasted vegetables.
If you are travelling from Ashgabat to Konye Urgench then make a stop here overnight. Accommodation is in simple yurts or tents with limited outdoor facilities but it’s well worth a trip to see the crater at night time. And it’s a fun thing to...More

We visited on our tour of Turkmenistan with Odawan Travel travelling down from Konye-Urgench in the north. This was a very long journey and took several hours. Unfortunately we arrived after sunset which is an ideal time to see the crater but the sight of...More

Hello, see my photo's on Tripadvisor made from a small hill. As you'll see, there is nothing! My wife and I had a prive tour and stayed in a small tent. All we needed was in the car (we travelled with Odawan travel).
