We went to this beach with the purpose to view the shipwrecks, it was not a sunny day so beach was mostly empty. We looked at the tide calendar in our phones and found the best time to visit. It’s quite an experience and recommend to anyone already in the area.
It’s definitely not a big commercial beach
, there’s a very small restaurant and no other services.
We went by free public bus, we were given wrong info at the Operation Dynamo museum and got off too soon . Here’s what you should do, take C2 line to the final stop in Leffrinckoucke, then line 20 to the Marie Zuydcoote stop, walk up several blocks of residential area until you reach the beach, if you look online you can get exact coordinates of the wreck. Though it’s unmissable if there is low tide.
Our mistake was to get off at the Hopital Maritime stop, we had to walk much more in the sand than we wanted.

Decent late morning of weather, so this beach front felt apt for traversing, for a while.

Decent area to park, nearby, and the beach, per se, is well maintained and clean.

The skeletal remnants of various wrecks can be spotted, hither and thither.

Nice to have some fresh air.

Nice place to have a beach walk during the low tide and search for the WWII ship wrecks. Free parking next to beach. Just check the time table's for low tide before your arrival if the ship wrecks are something you want to see.

We visited here while staying overnight in Dunkirk mainly to see the shipwrecks. Free parking and the shipwrecks are easy to spot once on the beach from the car park. Amazing sunset and what looked like a nice restaurant but we were to late to try.

We visited a few beaches in the area over our vacation and this was my favorite. The parking is pretty close to the beach. There are toilets near the parking lot. Can't vouch on status here, as I did not use them.
The beach is wide and flat with lots of different parts. Light sandy part, which if you dig a bit there is wet sand underneath great for making sand castles. There are also lots of pockets of water between the dunes and beaches. Which if you have a little one, they can more safely splash there than directly in the sea.
Life guards here seemed pretty attentive. When only a few swimmers at low tide, they actually go down near the water.

It can get VERY windy on the beach, which could be negative for a visit, but obviously no one has control over that! Check the life guard station before going down to the beach for the conditions are written on the side.

It was not very busy here when we visited. Especially compared to Dutch beaches at similar time of year and weather. Sometimes visiting felt you were only sharing the beach with a handful of others!

My favorite part about this beach is minimal commercialization. There is one restaurant. It serves ice cream, And that's it. So if you have kids who are going to beg for bouncy houses and toys, this is your best bet as they is nothing too much to ask for. Just beach! I really loved it here.
