Myself and a few co-workers visited this submarine. As an ex-USN Submariner the guides / crew made me feel at home, ringing the Kaxton (dive alarm) and letting us use the periscopes. What a day! This American sub proundly served the navy in Peru for over 50 years! It is a national treasure! I wish we had subs as well taken care of!

My daughter's dad, who is a officer in the Peruvian Navy bring us here for a tour, this was a fun activity recommended for all ages , just READ this, you have to enter a real submarine, so people with mobility issues, or claustrophobic, will not be able to make it.
This submarine belongs to the Peruvian Navy, now retired and is a museum, it was decommissioned in 1998,is now open to the public, entrance is a small fee.
We were a family with a kid elementary school ages and 2 high schoolers, and everybody enjoy it.

One of the most interesting tours in my 35 yrs. of visiting Peru. Absolutely unique opportunity to see inside a modern (decommissioned 2000 A.D.) full size submarine.
The tour is conducted in Spanish, so foreigners must go with someone who can translate. You MUST PHONE ahead as the tour is cancelled if there is an "ocean swell". Calleo is a dangerous area, so appropriate precautions must be observed. In spite of all of the above, this tour is well worth it for "submariners".

I have visited a lot of museum ships and was excited to discover that there was a submarine museum in Lima. The sub was built by Electric Boat in Groton, CT, and sold to Peru in 1954. She served in the Peruvian Navy until decommissioned in 1998. Unlike some submarines converted to museum ships, there are no stairs, you enter and exit using vertical ladders. The tour through the compartment was led by a guide who explained the workings of the submarine and answered questions (in Spanish; I'm not sure if there are English tours). On the day I visited most of the other visitors were groups of school-age children. There was also a small museum with a history of submarines in the Peruvian Navy, which could have been better.

The area is interesting to see around the museum . Caution is needed though the neighborhood can be very dangerous . The sub tour was neat of course with limited Spanish it is harder. The opening movie they show is pretty janky. As a buthe way the sub is tight and cramped if your not into tight areas this might not be for you . Also the smell inside is pretty strong very oily and greasy . It's enough that some people I our tour had to leave. I stuck it out but it made the tour seem long.

I was dining at the Cabos Restaurant and as we had a front view of the Submarine I decided to take my daughter to see it because we have never been inside one never before. It was a good experience. They have a small museum where you can see some pictures and documents from the history of the peruvian navy and also se some items used in the submarines. After that you are taken into a room where they show you a very poor quality 10 minute movie about the peruvian navy. After that you are taken to the sub where a guide explains you every part of the sub and at the end the make a small emergency simulation. My daughter enjoyed it very much so I guess it was worth it.

An excellent experience to see in situ what the inside of a submarine is like and what the life of the crew on board would be like, of course the current ones are "more" comfortable
