The fort was well preserved with good artifacts. I asked for a bilingual guide but was told it was only in Spanish. Unfortunately I couldn't understand more than half of the information on the guided tour so I was puzzled more often than not. It was an inexpensive way to see a historical site.

Nice afternoon activity. A lot of history about defending Peru and their feight for liberty. Enjoyed the fortress but unfortunately the last tour has no english speaking guide. Also all signs are in Spanish.

We, two girls and a boy, went to Fortaleza Real Felipe in november 2017z We did the tour with a guide, Pablo, who appeared to be a nice guy and who definitely knew a lot about the history of the fortress. But, girls and women, this guy will try to touch your bum when you are looking around! At first I didn't think it was on purpose, I thought that he just passed by too close, but when my friend told me he did the same thing to her and when it happened again to the both of us, there was no other explanation. So watch your bum especially with Pablo as a guide! The fortress itself was nice, but not as impressive as we thought it would be. The tour took more than two hours (it was too long), but I have to admit, the view over the sea and Lima was amazing on top of one of the towers. Overall you don't really miss out on anything if you skip the fortress, but if you have some time it is a nice way of digging deeper into the history of Peru.

We visited the fortress while our Cruise was in Port at Lima.
For ~ $5 PP we had a great informative guided tour lasting about 90 minutes
This is one of the largest fortresses built by the Spanish that they colonized
The fort is located nearly adjacent to the Cruise Port of Callao (Lima) and is a 15 min walk of $5 taxi.
Worth it if few hours to kill in Port

The fort is a nice place to visit. I was a bit surprised by the modern buildings in the central courtyard though (if you ask me they don't do the museum much good). We got a guided tour (in Spanish) which makes the visit more useful. The best part for me was the visit to the tower in the end with the drawbridge, 'maze' and prison inside.
There is a place inside where you can get drinks and snacks (it's not much more than a counter where you can order some soda's and candybars).

If you are a pirate geek like myself, we'll this is the place to visit. Full of history, ghosts, and antiques you could actually get a real taste of colonial Lima.
Well worth a visit, my lil critter really enjoyed It!

Visited on a school day and got hooked up with thirty or so well behaved but excited school kids. The guide was one of the soldiers stationed at the fort and did the tour in Spanish and English and was very interesting.
Well worth a visit to learn of Peru's struggles for independence and it's naval history.
The site has been recovered from ruins and is still in the process of restoration but generally finished.
We were led to believe that the troops may be moving out but it's still an operational base and respected as such.

We only had one rest day in Lima, and were staying down the road so thought why not? Impressive building, city views from Kings tower, and great to get a bit of Peru history too. Davis was a fantastic English guide for us, highly recommend him! Definitely worth a visit and also check out the waterfront while in the area!

The fortress is huge with a lot of history and interesting architecture . However the fortress is in a place far away from Lima city center , and if you really want to go here you should really go with a guide for safety reasons. The fortress have some tourists a day but most of them are South Americans, the area around the fortress tend to be a little more insecure than Lima is, with minimal police presence.... And half of the fortress is owned by military and cant be visited .
