Great spot for lunch, poor beach
Aug 2020 • Family
Great spot for some lunch. Shame about the plastic laden beach. Go for lunch, not to swim. Aghios is also more sheltered if you are with the kids. Pretty choppy here.

Beautiful but ruined by human ignorance

Beautiful beach but the sea and sand are full of trash/plastic. Terrible sight. Beyond sad. Can't recommend going.

A great place to eat!

The real appeal of Pachia Ammos is the row of wonderful tavernas along the beach road. Unfortunately the same currents that bring in the "fat sands" which is what pachia ammos means, also bring in some of the garbage that the big cruise ships dump into the Mediterranean instead of disposing of it properly. You probably want to swim elsewhere, but come here for dinner.

A plastic bag haven
Aug 2018
This sandy beach lined with good tavernas has a feel of Crete 20 years ago. Unfortunately the amount of rubbish on the beach and plastic in the sea spoils it for me. Feels like the blue flag beaches further up the coast have found somewhere to dump their trash.

A great setting, but a beach spoiled by rubbish
Aug 2018 • Family
The setting, very near the highway, is great - towering mountains both nearby and in the distance. The beach itself is sandy, but spoiled by litter (including plastic footwear), and a broken basketball net lying against a wall. There was quite a bit of plastic in the sea as well. A real shame as it could be so much more.

Lovely.

Quite a quiet beach, and with a big surf in the northerly wind. Quite charming, and great for a quick dip.

A secret too good to keep

There’s a little part of me that doesn’t want to share this unspoilt little place.

Sitting looking out in to the beautiful blue of the Aegean Sea I can smell how fresh the water is from here.

Took a dip in the calm water yesterday and was stunned at how clean it looked and smelt.

The scenery is stunning and the people here are too as I’ve found with everywhere we’ve been.

If you like archaeology this is a nice base to work from. Many sites within a short drive but be careful in the heat and on mountain roads.

If you visit Azoria and the ancient olive tree be sure to stop at Taverna Natural on the way there or back. Idyllic spot with organic food and a very warm welcome.

Zorbas food on the front is fresh and tasty, the man of the house full of fun. In the bar next door you will find Yannis to give you a warm welcome and good wine. Perfectly relaxing :)

I’ve not been taken a back on holiday for a long time. Please come here with respect, support the local community but leave it unspoilt. Take with you good memories and a lift in your heart.

Enjoy simplicity :)

Lovely beach even better taverna

Loved this sandy beach we so nearly drove past but did a U turn & headed back to check out the village especially the pottery shop & the sandy beach. So pleased we did, the beach is wonderful & shallow & protected by a harbour wall so no waves at all. There are about 6 tavernas to choose from by the beach we choose the first one on the RHS looking at them & it was outstanding food & value for money highly recommend it, it's called 'Akth' check it out, handmade chips & the largest Greek salad we had all holiday.

PASSIONATE ABOUT PACHIA
May 2017
Big bay with some spectacular strong winds making it ideal for wind surfers and the like. Can bathe here too if you are brave. Lovely backdrop with the Ha Gorge and Tripti mountain range behind you as you look out to sea on the beach front. The one downside is the rubbish blown in from Elounda and elsewhere into the big bay. It is a constant problem for the locals. Some of whom are on the beach every day collecting up the rubbish into big plastic bags in an effort to keep it under control.
