Excellent gruffalo trail at whinlatter forest!!! It was a beautiful spring day and the forest has so much to offer. We really enjoyed the gruffalo trail even though our 2 year old daughter wasn't in the best fettle. She really enjoyed seeing the interactive characters on the gruffalo spotter app. We didn't stay for a coffee but we will be... More

Something for everyone, gruffalo trail for the little ones, go-ape for the bigger ones, cycle trails, marked walking trails of different standards and osprey viewing. We walked one of the moderate trails it took about hour and half through the forest, past waterfalls, very beautiful, stopped at the cafe at the end which had a good range of food and... More

Visited Whinlatter twice whilst in the area for a long weekend in February, first visit we did the Gruffalo walk/trail which was very good for our young daughter, the trail was well marked and great fun. Also spent time playing on the outdoor playground which was good. The second visit my son and myself rode the Red Mountain Bike Trail... More

We visited on 23rd Feb 2017 during half term. Despite the heavy rain we managed a long walk through this amazing forest in time for the 11am to 3pm activity which was willow sculpting/weaving. This was an open activity no booking needed, the children had looked forward to this. It wasn't open when we arrived so we grabbed a coffee... More

We visited Whinlatter with our bikes but there is also a Go Ape there and a trail to find the Gruffalo. The bike tracks range from the black difficult trail, Red - Intermediate and Blue easy going which is what we did. Although it was an easy trail it was still exciting and I still managed to fall off after... More

Ideal for families, dogs, cyclists and all those who just love the outdoors. There are a variety of walks in and around the forest. Also, good mountain biking trails. A must do in any weather!

Even as my children have grown older this is still a family favourite! There are great walking trails for youngsters, fab playgrounds and good forest walks for older families. We do visit a lot and have found the car park season pass to be very good value. We also enjoy a warm drink at the end of our walk. Food... More
