Whilst the place is well set up for catering for visitors I feel they have taken advantage of visitors and locals as a financial milk cow. I was shocked at the cost of the cafe....£8.95 for a sandwich is just silly. Then the cost of...More
The forest park has so much to offer to cyclists, families and walkers.
I followed the well signposted trail to Seat How from which there are marvellous views across to the fells.
The circular walking routes are clearly marked and colour coded, starting from and...More
Did the summit walk and it was perfect beautiful forestry that is so well mantained to keep the paths clear to walk on you could easily spend a whole day here. Parking was very reasonable and the toilets were well mantained. Staff in the restaurant...More

SuJayne is right, there is quite a large playground if the weather is good. The visitors center is quite good but won't keep young children entertained for long. The Gruffalo trail through the woods is as long or short as you want to make it - you can get a guide in the Information Center. You can also hire bikes. It isn't a massive distance from Keswick, so perhaps you could do Whinlater in the morning and have a more gentle afternoon in Keswick or messing about on Derwent Water.
