Our air safari holiday with Kirkhope rates as one of the top experiences for my husband and myself. From the time I spoke to Kirkhope to organise this holiday, they were professional and knowledgeable answering any questions I put to them. Wow!! Where do I start!!! On the day of our departure we met Jake Barden, our pilot, and what a delightful, intelligent and competent person he is, but not only that, he was caring and looked out for us and all our fellow travellers right throughout our journey . The itinerary was fabulous and the reason my husband and I decided to take this air safari was that we don't 4WD and would never have seen all these fabulous outback and hard-to-get-to places without this type of trip. The destinations that Kirkhope have chosen to visit are quite spectacular along with wonderful experiences, such as canoeing along the gorge at Adels Grove -a stunning place, visiting the tip of Australia by helicopter, relaxing at Lizard Island and visiting Camden Park Station at Longreach for a wine and cheese sunset followed by a candlelit dinner in the shearing shed. There were just so many of these stand-out experiences, but I can't mention them all unfortunately. The accommodations were commensurate with what you would expect on one of these safaris and we were pleasantly surprised at the standard offered to us. Jake asked each of us to be his 'co-pilot' throughout the trip and we all enjoyed that experience. The aircraft was very comfortable with large windows and due to refuelling at all the outback airports, we all had time to move seats and experience it all. My husband and I have already booked for another of these tours with Kirkhope and I know it won't be the last one we do.

This 7 day 6 night air safari along the Murray River from near its source to its mouth into the Southern Ocean was excellent. There were 8 tourists plus the very aimiable professional pilot/guide. The trip had been meticulously planned by Kirkhope & the accommodation & sustenance was the best available in each port of call. All the activities along the way were very interesting particularly from the historical point of view which highlighted the importance of the Murray/Darling system as one of the most important logistical arteries in Australia during the second half of the 19th century.

Wow!! This holiday was amazing and filled with highlights along the way. Jake Barden, our pilot and Kirkhope representative was always calm, pleasant and able to adapt quickly when situations changed such as weather conditions and the effect on airstrips on our tour. Nothing was too much trouble and the whole trip ran very smoothly. All we had to do was sit back, relax and enjoy the experiences of this holiday. Nearly every destination had unforgettable highlights that far exceeded our expectations. Adel's Grove was an oasis of natural beauty and wonder, Big Red near Birdsville put on a magnificent show of colours as the sun set. The helicopter flight from Thursday Island to the Tip of Australia is something that we will never forget. Lizard Island provided the most spectacular snorkelling where we swan with turtles near the Giant Clam Gardens... I could go on, but you should experience these destinations yourself. I highly recommend Kirkhope Aviation as they were thorough and professional from the booking process right up until the end, when landing back in Moorabbin. My husband and I will definitely be booking future trips with this operation.

The quickest way to see all these iconic destinations - just 12 days - and also the magnificent landscape from the air. Highlights included: a beer in the Birdsville Hotel and the sunset drinks at Big Red sand dunes; kayaking and swimming in Lawn Hill Gorge; helicoptering Torres Strait islands then walking to the tip of Oz; two nights on beautiful Lizard Island; indigenous cave art at Laura; at Longreach, accommodation in Slab Huts, the Stockman's Museum, the Thompson River evening cruise and Smithy's Outback Dinner and Show; and glamping for two nights at Wallaroo Station, with day tours by BooBook Ecotours and evenings around big open fires under the stars. A "bucket list" trip if you do not have time for eight weeks on the outback roads.
