We hiked here from our cabin at The Golden Bear Cottages. The guy at the front said it was a good hike. He was right! Once we got to the top, we could see the whole Big Bear!!

Hiked with friends on this trail. I would highly recommend it for both beginners and more experienced hikers.

For the trail only being 2 miles round trip, it packs a punch. Mostly uphill but a fantastic workout. Gorgeous views and great places to take photos. Overall worth the trek but get the adventure pass for parking to avoid a ticket

Great hike. Took me two hours round trip with normal pace. Really steep at few places especially towards the start and the finish. great views. The markings are slightly poor and make sure you dont loose track. Parking could be tricky. so be prepared.

The trail is really cool. Pay attention though that you don't loose the trail after the first climb. Very steep at some points but still moderate. The view from the first 'platform' is amazing. Parking is not too easy but you will find a spot!...More

I’ve grown up hiking on this trail. It’s the first one that comes to mind when I have visitors come up to the area that want to see the lake. It doesn’t take too long nor too much effort to get such a high payout...More

Wonderful views from the rocks along the trail. It's fun to climb on Castle Rock and see the lake and trees! Take a lunch or snack to enjoy while looking at the scenery!!

Yep, but bring leashes, water, and some food for them. It’s a rough trail at parts so always be prepared to haul them back to the car if need be.

Hatfield-McCoy Trails [ ATV Trail Riding ] (3 Replies)
Me and my wife bought matching Honda Foreman ATVs this past week and we set out for a ride in the mountains. After two solid days riding we are beat and ready for more. We were never a "four wheeler" family but we decided that since we lived in the heart of Hatfield McCoy Trail country, we should give it a try. We are the typical family living the american dream, two kids, a small business, nice little house, etc. Our typical vacation is a Condo at Myrtle Beach or a Cabin in the Smokies. I...More

I drive a truck thoughout southern WV. I remember when they first statred talking about the trails. Their plans for hiking, biking and horseback trails pretty much never took shape but the ATV part sure did. I never dreamed it would be as big as it is today and it's still growing. It's a steady stream of out of state vehicles hauling bikes and 4-wheelers. MA, NY, TX, IN........you name it. Can't believe how far people are driving for this. Many locals are cashing in on the trail....More
