Yesterday Pete took me, my husband, and our two teen boys snow shoeing. Pete was incredible. When we were locked out of our car, he offered to pick us up from our Best Western Hotel and took us 25 minutes up to where the snow shoeing was amazing. Pete was fantastic. He knew just where to go, the equipment that was needed and took us to the most ideal place to snow shoe. Our son had a Boy Scout requirement of snowshoeing 4 miles and Pete made sure to cover this. He was completely sensitive to our needs and took the time to show us what to do, where to step, and how to snow shoe, as we were all beginners. He also was fantastic company. We had our own private tour and Pete made it interesting. He is a fascinating person who lives in Rome 10 months out of the year and does walking tours there. I can't wait to join him on a walking tour in Rome. From start to finish, Action Tours was the best. Zach in the office answered all of my numerous questions and returned all of my calls in regards to whether there would be enough snow to snowshoe. Everyone was extremely kind, courteous, and professional. I would definitely showshoe with this company again and would love to do their zipline. I highly recommend Action Tours and would not go with any other company. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for making it such a fabulous day!!!

Hi Beth, We are so grateful for your 5-star review. As a small, family owned business, every great review helps. We are happy to hear your snowshoe experience with Pete exceeded your expectations. We are lucky to have great tour guides and staff. Congratulations on your son's Boy Scout achievement. We are happy that we could be a small part of it. We would love to have you and your family back to zipline with us. It is a beautiful area year round! Thank you again, Action Tours

Took my grandsons, 10 and 8. First you have an information tutorial and safety lecture, then a van takes you up the mountain to the first stop. All the drivers are fun and will answer any questions. There are 8 zip lines, with a stop half was to rest and have some water. There is a cameraman taking shots all along the way. The entire event takes a little over 3 hours. It was a really fun experience and the boys loved it!

I wanted to take my boyfriend to do something fun for his bday so I thought of this place. I was able to book a reservation the day before so that was a plus. Some places are booked for weeks. When we got to the office we filled out a short liability paper and watched a short video. Basically you need to only remember 3 hand signals and you're good to go. We hopped in the van and took a 15 minute ride to these off road vehicles where we took a 5 minute ride to the first zip line. We got our gear on, took a picture and were ready. We had ten people in our group. The guides were really fast at getting us on and down the lines one after another. Very patient and nice. The lines aren't too high off the ground so it's not the height that will get you. It's stepping off the ledge. You get use to it. They say its suppose to be a 3 hour tour but we were done in an hour and a half. When you get back to the office you watch all the pictures the guy took. Always tuck in your shirt in the harness or you won't be happy when you see your pictures unless you have abs of steel. You're not allowed to take anything with you, not even a camera. But it's a good idea because your hands are In bulky gloves and they keep you moving so there is no time for pictures anyways.

This is a review of this company's snow shoe tour; they don't have a separate category/site for it.
Let me start by saying our guide Phil was GREAT! No complaints there AT ALL. The issues we had last Sunday (Feb.18) was that the "3 hour tour" includes the time to drive to and from the trailhead! On that day, it took about 50 minutes out and 35 minutes back. Do the math.
Also, they repeatedly talk about transporting customer in their vans (see photos). However, after we checked in, they told us we had to drive our own cars!! No explanation given--and their vans were parked out front (see photo). Scummy.
The snow shoeing itself was nice, although you could hear the traffic from highway 38 most of the time. We expected more for $120.

Great fun for young and old. My wife and I are both in our early 60's and we were twice the age of most on the tour. We had as much fun as anyone. The guides were great. The safety measures were very carefully followed and the experience was exhilarating. The only negative was we couldn't bring our camera. The tour took plenty of pictures and for $45 those memories were yours. I would have purchased pictures even if we had taken some with our own camera. That was the only minor negative in an otherwise great experience.

Enjoyed a great zipline tour with my friend and our children. We have ziplined in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, so frankly, we did not have high expectations. Nevertheless, it was a fun adventure with a terrific team. The staff is skilled, warm and friendly and even managed to make my extremely fearful friend feel relaxed and confident. If you have ziplined in the canopies of rain forests, you might be a little underwhelmed. There are nine flights on a pretty mountain, bu the focus is on the activity and not the scenery. Also, it is pricey; the same price for everyone regardless of age. Make sure you book way in advance as they are a very popular attraction. Count on the whole activity taking about 4 hours from check-in to the end. FYI: you meet in the village and they transport you to the zipline site about a 20 minute drive away. Mr. Gardener was our fabulous driver! You can leave your belongings in lockers in the village. Leave your camera behind as you are not permitted to use your own cameras at all. A camera man follows your tour and takes lots of pictures that are available for purchase after the tour. Wear lots of sunscreen and BRING your own water as they do not provide any.

My boyfriend and I were in Big Bear for his 40th birthday this past weekend and we did both the Segway and Zipline tours.

Segway

Pros- Our guide Chris was awesome. He was a fun guide and I enjoyed the tour around Big Bear Lake. He took some great pictures of us both on and off of the Segways. Safety was clearly stressed and a big priority.

Cons- Although safety was stressed, I still got injured when my Segway tilted over going up an incline. It was my fault in that I did not properly dismount from the Segway when it started to tilt. I panicked. The Segway toppled on me, pinning me to the ground and badly bruising both of my legs, scraping my elbow. This being said, I never felt 100% confident on the Segways.

This is not a passive experience, it is more on par with skateboarding or rollerblading. There is a high probability of falling when learning. We heard this from pretty much everyone we encountered in Big Bear, including staff at the zipline. It's not to say that you will have a major accident, but be prepared for the possibility of scrapes and bruises. I think that if I had more experience, my confidence level would have been fine. Two hours was not enough to ease the nerves.

I think Action did the best they could to give us a great experience and minimize accidents. I was able to finish the tour and when we returned to the office, Chris gave me ice packs for my injuries.

Zipline

Pros- Fantastic tour guides, I never felt unsafe or that safety was not a priority. The guides were fun, but also really nice about not pushing me when I momentarily freaked out. They were supportive! There are nine ziplines and the excursion lasted nearly three hours, which felt like a great value for money. We liked that they had a professional photographer. It's located in a beautiful location.

Cons- really only one- I wish that the pictures at the end of the tour had been better organized. It added about another half an hour of waiting around the Action office as we went through all of the tour pictures. It's probably cost prohibitive, but it would have been nice if we could have viewed the pictures on the ride back in the van and then been ready to purchase when we got back to the office. We almost didn't wait to see the pictures, because we wanted to head out to lunch!

I'm glad that I did it, but Ziplining was far outside of my comfort zone. It wasn't the heights and I had trust in the equipment/guides...it was the speed and worrying about breaking. I was shaking after the first few lines and didn't get comfortable until the last two. We are very unlikely to do zipling again, but I am glad that I experienced it through Action. Good company and great guides.

TIP- We were told to wear bright colors for pictures. We did this on both excursions and our pictures really looked great.

Please visit my blog for a more extensive review of the zipline and Segway with pictures! Also tons on our Big Bear weekend!

We went zip lining yesterday morning and we both had an amazing time. I have to admit, that I was petrified at first, thinking I could always opt out after the first run, but surprisingly enough, I managed to have a great time and did all 9 runs!! The scenery was gorgeous, and they took some fun pictures of us that you can purchase. The staff was exceptional!!! Very friendly, knowledgeable and very patient (with me)...LOL One fashion tip to the ladies..........make sure you wear a longer shirt......some of us had shorter shirts on and with all the cables and gear, it kinda makes your shirt show your abdomen in some of the pictures. We both thought this was a great deal that we purchased through a groupon. Make sure you make your reservation, way ahead of time.....they book up fast and they run all year long.

I enjoyed the zipline, however even though I watched on youtube, it wasn't quite as exciting as i thought it would be....you're not real far off the ground, and the views weren't quite as incredible as I thought they could be seeing that you are in the mountains and by a lake (which there is no view of)....the staff on the platforms were extremely friendly and helpful for people of all abilities!! It was a fun day , a bit pricey for what it was....so while not overwhelmed, it was a good day and we enjoyed it.
