I recently spent two months traveling around North Portugal, Great Britain, Ireland and Iceland. As a history major, I spend lots of time in museums and historical sites, but also only travel by public transportation, and realized quickly with southern Wales that I needed something different. I consider myself so fortunate to have found Archaeotours website, and had the pleasure of two days with Mary. I originally had trouble contacting Mary-turned out she was buying a new computer and my emails weren't getting through (this was fixed quickly), so the owners of my B and B in Goodwick, Wales just called her. I cannot express how shocked I was that she literally dropped everything and gave me a day tour the next day! It was one of the best day tours I have ever experienced, Mary is VERY knowledgeable about both history/archaeology and the area, AND knows the best restaurants and pubs. Had one of the best meals on my trip that day as well. And as if all this were not enough, when I casually mentioned I had so wanted to see Pembroke Castle, she dropped everything again for a second day, gave me another half day tour and then drove me to the closest train station for my trip on to Cardiff. Yes, of course she is getting paid, but Mary goes far beyond and above to keep her customers happy. She loves what she does and it shows. I cannot understand why her company is not listed in the major guidebooks, but I have recommended her to everyone and hope to use her again in Scotland. The company is listed as a day tour, but also offers custom tours and week tours. You will LOVE this experience.

Much better than a tour guide, a qualified archaeologist with extensive knowledge of the area. We went to places which we wouldn't have found on our own. Mary is a real people person who we felt very at ease with, I cannot say how much we enjoyed our day with her. There were no pat answers to questions and Mary's knowledge and enthusiasm was both refreshing and interesting. I have to confess to being a bit unsure of what to expect and wondered if the ' get a REAL archaeologist to show your round' just a marketing ploy, I am delighted to say my concerns were unfounded, I would certainly recommend Archaeotours to anyone with an interst in the history and prehistory of Pembrokeshire.

Archaeotours works under the motto "tailor-made archaeology, history and wildlife"... a bullseye.
I travelled to Wales with my family and, as it is tradition in our family trips, we usually like to explore the country exhaustively, driving the entire country through the most important sites. Unlike most of the world, driving is an issue in the UK so we decided to hire a private tour company and chose Archaeotours.
We were welcomed by Mary, a wonderful lady with a very keen sense of humor and a masters in archaeology, she was our driver and tour guide. Everything in this trip was tailor made to our particular preferences and Mary was always kind to give us her best advice and take us to wherever we decided to go to.
The visits were absolutely marvelous. We visited over 10 castles, 4 of which were UNESCO World Heritage sites, we explored several ancient ceremonial burials, we were given vast insights on the ancient welsh civilizations and archaeological pieces, etc. The trip was absolutely amazing and a large deal of this can be attributed to the very helpful suggestions we received from Mary.
Whether traveling to Wales, England or Scotland, I would truly recommend Mary and Archaeotours.

Our family loves to pack international trips chock-full of history and local experiences, and we usually have limited time. After compiling a list of things we wanted to see in the UK and Ireland, I reached out to a couple of travel agents to see if they could help arrange itineraries, accommodations, etc. Every one of them told me I was crazy; they were no help. I ran across Mary's website, and, on it, she makes an offer to help put together custom itineraries. She did a fantastic job with this. We only had to sacrifice on thing we wanted to do in order to make it fit together. Her suggestions on additional places to see, recommended accommodations, and even how to tour specific sites in the easiest fashion were spot-on. We could not have done it without her. Approach her early if you want her to book your travel so she can earn a commission; if you don't, go ahead and pay her for her time-- you'll realize value from every pound you spend for it. She's an absolute encyclopedia of UK/Ireland historical travel.

We had an excellent day with Mary who was able to show us several Mesolithic sites which will help me with a dissertation I have to write.
It was a very special experience thanks to Mary who made it all so interesting.

This month we spent a week visiting Wales as part of our Great Britain family trip. By no means we would stress ourselves trying to drive on the left, so one month in advance we started our search for a solution. We considered trains, but that meant missing all the little spots. We considered one day tours, but no one offered exactly what we wanted.
Finally, we found the Archaeotours web page and got a same-day answer to our mail. We sent Mary Baker our wish list with all the attractions we wanted to see and she not only complied, but even delivered a few more spots we hadn´t considered.
This kind, motherly, middle-aged lady drove us in her car to hidden and uncharted neolithic burial chambers, as to the main gate of all the castles, abbeys and museums. With patience and good mood, she adapted to our plans and schedules.
I highly recommend her services.

Mary provided a tour for myself and a friend on a custom-tailored trip around Pembrokeshire, Wales over the course of a week. Along the way, she knew every site and answered every question. Besides an incredibly deep knowledge of the history of each site, she brings an enthusiasm that makes it impossible to not have fun. At each leg of our tour she went above and beyond to make sure to accommodate our every need. By the end of our trip, Mary was part of our group and we were sad to have to leave her. I cannot recommend this enough and will DEFINITELY be repeat customers.

I have used Archaeotours on my last 3 visits to the United Kingdom...once in Wales, once in Devon, and most recently in Ireland, and I can say without hesitation that I would use them on my next trip as well. In a nutshell Mary provides highly individualized service, she really listens to what you are interested in and tailors your tour to fit your interests. She works very hard during the tour to make sure your trip is everything you hoped it would be...next on the bucket list Scotland!

A long overdue review. I was selected by my university as their Welsh fellow to go abroad and do research. I chose to study the standing stones and dolmens. Archaeotours worked with me to plan a route. I was nervous, having never been overseas before. This turned into the experience of a lifetime. I not only got to see almost everything I wanted to (the weather was a bit of a problem), I got great information for my research and suggestions where to look next. Mary has been great in answering questions for me for both my research and my creative writing. I couldn't have asked for more. I'd take another tour in a heartbeat.

What a marvelous trip! Orkney has more of the most ancient sites of habitation in Scotland, so that's where Mary took me. However, she stopped at any site I wanted to see as she drove along. With her degree in archaeology, she is an expert on all of them. She gave me knowledgeable facts and explanations in a conversational way, and we visited a great number of sites. Mary is a super driver, knows the ferry schedules and is pleasant company, as well. She is flexible and wants her guests to "have a blast", which I did. Dependable, thoughtful, adventuresome and easy-going, she made the trip an excellent adventure. Staying at the Mill of Eyrland and spending time with its inkeeper, Morag, as well as her friends, was delightful. I could not have hoped for a better trip, and I am hoping to take a similar one to the ancient sites of Ireland next year. This time I would not hesitate to send her a wire transfer ahead of time, since she had so much difficulty with my US bank's cashier checks and British bank regulations. Mary is a trustworthy friend and a great gal! Cheers!
