About
The name of the winery “MAROF,” meaning “Meierhof” in German, is an agricultural estate dating back to 1905, when the Hungarian family Szápáry built a kind of “hunting house” together with agricultural buildings and a wine cellar there.

A must see. I simply love their wines, especially the red ones. The nature around is simply beautiful.

We were staying on the Hungarian side of the border and wanted to visit a vinyard. Well we chose a great one.
We arrived unannounced and were taken on a tour of the winery showing us the cellars and production areas. Not a great deal to see but intersting non the less.
When we got back to the tasting room, which is an Architectural gem in itself, we were joined by Uroš Valcl, partner in the Winery and winemaker.
His enthusiasm is infectious, he just loves wine and what he is doing, and he does it extremely well.
Their wines are pure but complex, taste of the "terroir" and are really good.
The cheaper wines were very drinkable, the more expensive a joy, and though more than I might normally pay you can see why they are worth it.
Just make sure you have enough room to get it all home!
So welcoming and made even our 3 year old grandson feel at home, thank you.

very good and young winery in area, with focus on area traditions.

Also very recommended to visit marof restaurant, with "prekmurje's" (area) traditional food.

4 of us had an amazing private tour of this amazing, state of the art winery and tasted 6 or 7 different wines with small bites for palette cleansing. It was amazing. Their big reds were very good and a little unique which made them special. We bought a case of wine to drink with friends on our trip through Europe and had some shipped home. The staff was professional, gracious and educational. Hands down, top 2 wine tours I have ever had.
