Absolutely LOVED this site! Such a great find. Travelling in a motor home with my husband and small baby (1.5yrs) and it was heaven.
We arrived in the late afternoon on a Saturday and only just managed to get a spot (it’s not possible to book in advance).
The road is smooth however the last 1km into the site and around is track so a bit bumpy but totally fine for a touristy motor home!
Lots of people set up with proper hardcore rigs - very cool!
The site was super friendly and spaced out.
We didn’t pay on entry because we didn’t know if we’d get a spot but there’s a second pay box / honesty box once your in.
Anywhere you park up you’ve got loads of space and it’s a nano second walk to a pristine beach. Flour like sand, crystal clear and calm water. Great for swimming and walking around - we saw a BIG ray!!
We were there just the one night but could easily have stayed longer.
The only facilities are block loos so bring everything you need with you!

We decided to do an overnight at sandy cape as we had never been before and also have a year old kelpie that has severe fomo and loves a swim and a dig in the sand. The bay directly off the south camp track was absolutely beautiful, like being on rotto except better! The water is so warm and still, perfect for sup’ping, snorkeling, floating… we went just after school holidays and although a few people were there we had our privacy. Only downer was the wind, we didn’t account for the wind strength. Our Kmart tents were no match for the gale force winds ripping through ‘tent land’ and we decided to get tf out of dodge. Caravans, swags, roof top tents maybe but flimsy discount store tents made of paper clips and chewy wrappers? I’d not risk it.

We had been before a couple of times but never to stay and were always worried about going in case it was full when we arrived as you are unable to book. We took the chance on a mid week school holiday period and were really surprised to find that there was plenty of space.
The beach is amazing with sand dunes at one end and a nice sheltered cove around the corner at the other end. Sand boarding on the dunes is a must and loads of fun for the whole family. I read about the great snorkelling from other posts but I don't think that it would be that good looking at the visibility in the sea. There was also a lot of seaweed which I don't remember there being as much in the past.
The camp site is great with long drop toilets only and no showers, water or power. $20 is a fair price for the location but with no power or water it is excessive when you are unable to book and risking not getting a plot after a 3 hour drive. I would be really happy to see a online booking system with some strict conditions so that at least you know you have the opportunity to get a plot in peak periods.
Will definitely be back but not sure when as we were talking to other families who claim that on normal weekends it is really difficult to get a plot so not really happy to take the risk.

Rangers only ensure that you pay your fee. Nothing more.
We had a drunken idiot next to us playing extremely loud music and screaming until 11 pm.
There was nothing we could do, nobody there to assist.
Night before people were playing music until 12pm.
Left this place distressed and tired. Not our idea of a holiday.
If you pay for your stay there should be a Ranger there to make sure idiots behave themselves.

What a lovely beach, only 10km north of Jurien Bay. The water is calm in this bay, flanked by rock on either side. Lovely to walk along if its too windy or cold to swim. There is a caravan behind the dunes - perfect for those who truly want to get away from the crammed tourist caravan parks. You must add this beach to your list.

Rated the Sandy Cape beach .
The sand was white and spongy , massive dune that kids and adults were sand boarding down , paddle boards for hire , 4x4s parked on the beach and everyone enjoying a swim .The weekend was wet and wild , but when we went to the beach , the sun came out and we made the most of it. Water temp was great and pretty sheltered from the wind right around where there is a pretty big rock half in the water. Will be back , to maybe try out the camp facilities and mimic hyena noises.
Fair bit of Sea weed which sucked . Just brought me down to Very good.

Sandy Cape is somewhere we have been quite a few times and when the weather is good, its amazing with stunning water, cool breezes and lots of marine life. This time we dropped through in winter and a front came through dropping 38mls on Jurien. Not so nice when its pouring down and its freezing as well.Try and make your trip when you can enjoy the hot weather and thens there no chance of being flooded in on the road to Sandy Cape which nearly happened to us.Drop toilets which are very clean.BBQ facilities and long beautiful walks along the beach.Plenty of room even when its full. Its 420 a night for a site which is paid to the caretaker or ranger.Whichever comes to collect and please pay as it goes to keeping the facilities in the great condition that they are in.Dump points and bins out of the campgrounds

One of my favorite spot in the area, short walk to the platform with great view.
Only downside it the campground, the toilet are really dirty. We stayed in lots of Campground and this one was by far, the worst. For $20 it unacceptable, not even a brush the wash it. We tried all of the toilet of the campground and they were all in the same shape. Will visit again but will not stayed there.

I was holding off reviewing this gem, as I wanted to keep this a secret. That said, I wanted to show Sandy Cale some love since it’s always been so lovely.
I’ve camped here several times; with my partner, my mother, my bestie and an overseas friend—all separate occasions.
Every visit has been great. The site is clean, accessible and is dynamic enough to host many types of campers.
Please be mindful when visiting this gorgeous place. My last visit, I had to save a seagull that was trapped in fishing wire.

Hi, motorbikes or dirtbikes are not permitted on the beach.
hey, is the campsite usually busy in the second week of the school holidays. looking for a small group to come up with 2 cars for 2 nights.

Hi there, yes the campsite is busy all peak periods. It is first-in, first served, so we suggest getting there a couple of days before school holidays start. If you miss out, there is overflow camping available in Jurien Bay. If you would like any more information about other options, contact visitor[at]dandaragan.wa.gov.au or check out our website.

I see its $20 per night, how is this payable?
Also, around the second weekend of December me and a few friends would like to come and have a weekend there, whats the chance of getting spots close together for around 4-5 cars?

Hi Shaun, you can pay at the honesty box at the park entrance, or otherwise to the Ranger or caretakers who visit each day.

Hi. What is the significance of all those little white rock mounds along the road to Sandy Cape
Visit Turquoise Coast
Jurien Bay, Australia5 contributions
Hi John, there is no significance and in fact we don't encourage it as the rocks and logs (which are animal habitat) are moved out of the bush and closer to the road. The power of 'one person does it, so everyone does it'. :)
Hi there, I see people accessing camp areas that are a tiny bit north of the caravan section. Its off the beaten track so to speak. Is that part of the recreation park or is outside the grounds? If it is part of the recreation grounds, how much to stay there?

Hi there, it’s all part of the park and costS $20 per night, the rangers there do patrols all the time. Just be aware that the whole area north and south of the actual camping grounds is only accessible by 4wd. It’s awesome though, we have just come back today and spent quite a few days all over it finding beautiful bays that we had all to ourselves 😄
Hello, We are travelling up to Jurien Bay later this month. We have a 4WD but our friends do not. Is there an access point / ideal spot along this beautiful beach that does not require a 4WD?

Hi Cassie. Sandy Cape Recreation park and Milligan`s Island camping node near Green Head are the best options for you. Both are 2WD access with spur tracks for 4WD if you choose to use them.
Access to Sandy Cape is off Indian Ocean Drive 10 kms north of Jurien bay. The road in is sealed and tracks around the camp sites are gravel. Toilets are scattered throughout. there is no power or water on site. Campfires are permitted up until 31st October but you will need to bring your own wood. Camp fees of $20 per night are applicable. A camp host is on site. Milligans Island is accessed via Green head on the north access road. Follow the signposts.
it sounds like you times coincide with WA school holidays? it will be busy. feel free to call me on 9652 0870 and I can give you other options if both places are full. There is no booking system for both sites, it is a first in first served basis. Cheers Mike
Are campfires allowed at the moment i.e. September 2020? If so, is there firewood available at the camp, or is it BYO?
Thanks - Kate

Hi Kate
Yes fires are OK for that time frame. You will need to bring your firewood (available for sale at both service stations in Jurien bay) Cheers

Hi, can anyone tell me if the camp area is normally full during January school holidays during the week ?
Visit Turquoise Coast
Jurien Bay, Australia5 contributions
Hi Louisa. School holidays are always busy at Sandy Cape.
If you have a 4WD there are plenty of options both North and South of the Sandy Cape campgrounds but if camping in these locations you will need to be self sufficient as there are no facilities. There are also other camping options in the Shire. If you like to give me a call I will send some details to your postal address. Ph 9652 0870. Cheers Mike

What are the rules on fires? And when are the fire ban periods.
Is there a map to show sanctuary zones for fishing too
Visit Turquoise Coast
Jurien Bay, Australia5 contributions
Hi Kristian
Campfires are allowed at Sandy Cape but there is a prohibited period from 1st November to 1st April. Fires are also prohibited over the Easter long weekend including Good Friday and the 3 days immediately after.
Occasionally during periods of severe weather a ban can be put in place. Fires need to be contained and you will need to bring your own firewood.
We have a map of the Jurien Bay marine park here at the visitor centre (showing sanctuary zones) but you can access one online through the DBCA website if you like.
Any questions feel free to call me on 9652 0870. Cheers
