About
In the town of Rueda, located in the province of Valladolid, origin of the Castilian white wine, Verdejo, the singular labyrinth underground wine cellar of Grupo Yllera can be found. This winery unites wine, art, mythology, history and culture, opening up a world sensations and senses. Inside an impressive cave of 20 metres underground and for more than one kilometre, wines are guarded in different premises that constitute a labyrinth connection. Grupo Yllera pursuing to recover underground cellars of this area, has started to renovate these wine cellars creating a space where visitors and find out all about the history and origin of winemaking. In order to offer new experiences to the visitors, a link between the Minotaur Myth and the family wines has been created. By unwinding “the thread of Ariadne”, we will learn more about the characteristics and excellence of the wines of Grupo Yllera; sparkling wines, whites of Rueda, red young and barrel aged wines, ageing on the bottle and the highlight of the winery: Yllera Dominus.

Fantastic tour
Nov 2019 • Couples
So this was a really great tour around the wine production site. We booked the tour in advance, which judging by some other reviews, would be highly recommended as I doubt you could just turn up and expect it to happen. We were initially told via email that no one would be available on the day we wanted to visit, to give us the tour in English but we were still welcome to come for a look around. We were so looking forward to visiting Rueda, tasting the wine and visiting the underground labyrinth that we agreed. However on our arrival we were chuffed to be told an English speaking guide was there and would do the tour for just the two of us (normally they would cater for much larger parties!) We were informed the tour would take 2 hours, but with our questions and the leisurely pace of our tasting session it actually took us more like 2.5 hours which was fine with us! We were actually accompanied by 2 guides, the second was trying to improve his English so to be able to cope with doing the tour in English by himself, but both our guides were friendly and put our Spanish skills to shame! The tour itself was extremely informative and we learned a lot more than on other wine tours, without it being boring. The tasting session was very nice, it would have been nice to sample even more!!!! Our car was already rather full so unfortunately we couldn't purchase as much as we would have liked. After the tasting there was a short car trip across to Hilo de Ariadni (about 3 minutes away) This extensive cave cellar labyrinth has a real wow factor and was the highlight of the tour. We felt honoured to have been shown around everywhere by 2 such polite and knowledgable guides when there were only the 2 of us. Thank you! Would highly recommend a visit here. Next trip we would love to eat in the underground restaurant!

It was on of the best guided tours that I've experience. Thanks Letícia for de wonderful visit in both sectors. First, with a nice lesson about the way of doing Rueda wines. Second, with the travel trough de greek mitology in the ancient wine cellars.

Desapointing not worth waisting your time
Dec 2016 • Family
I am disapointed maybe because i am a yllera wine lover. I stopped by from a return trip to Madrid and the person in charge did not make a single effort to rise our interrest in the different wine options did not propose wine testing and when we asked so did not want to open new bottles. Brief buy it to the supermarket at least it will not leave u a bad taste.

Good afternoon, I'm sorry to hear that your experience was not positive in our winery. However, we use the tryadvisor website for visits to our wineries. As far as I can understand in your opinion, you were taken care of in the store in the hold, so the means of claiming would not be this. Anyway, I do not know exactly what was the problem that you had in the store, but our store is not the opportune space for the tasting of several wines, it is more destined to the purchase. I invite you to return to visit us on another occasion, know our winery and can do a deeper tasting of all our brands. Greetings, Leticia

A great way to shop
Jul 2016
We didn't do a tour, but called in to buy some wine, having tasted it at a special event at the Parador de Carmona. The shop is well laid out and the friendly young lady was very enthusiastic and helpful.
It is very easy to access off the A6 motorway. We shall be back for some more next time we pass.

A must if you want to learn about and taste the wines from the Area.

This winery is at the side of the dual carriageway that takes you to Madrid so you cannot miss it. It is well worth the effort to visit as it is a family business that started producing wines in 1970. The main grapes used in there wines are Verdejo (lovely dry white) a and Tempranillo which produces a wonderful red wine that many Brits call a Rioja. Rioja is an area in Northern Spain which is the best known region for producing quality red wines mainly using the Tempranillo grape.
They have recently started producing sparkling wines for the girls with an alcohol content of 5.5%. Sales have rocketed from 40000 bottles in year one and 1.4 million in year three. New production facilities have been constructed to support this volume with cameras in storage tanks to monitor fermentation. This guarantees the quality is not compromised by over fermenting. At the end of the tour we were able to taste three of the wines with chorizo, cheese and bread sticks, wonderful. Their Yllera Tempranillo aged in oak barrels is superb, a truly excellent "Rioja" from the Castilla y Leon Province.

Firstly, it was very helpful to be able to email and arrange the visit in advance, and ensure we had an english tour guide that fitted into our itinerary. We arrived on the required day and time, met the lovely Eva who kindly took us round the manufacturing site with explanations along the way. She then introduced us to their wines, before heading off to the original site for another tour and lunch. The 2nd tour was conducted in the underground tunnels where the wine was originally produced and stored - about 5km of tunnels! The best was yet to come - we had the resturant to ourselves and we had an amazing traditional local lunch - gigantic bean stew to start (made and brought in from a local family), followed by 500g steak. We were able to taste the wines with the food that subsequently helped with out buying decisions. An excellent day!

Wine trip extraordinaire
Had never been to a vineyard before I visited Yllera. It was a great day out, though a bit of a distance to travel from where we were staying in Madrid. Got to see wine production as it happened. Guided tour was marvellous and the caves/ cellars atmospheric. A plentiful wine tasting of the most sumptuous wines along with cheeses/ crackers was included. After this our trip ended with a delicious meal and even more fine wine in the Yllera restaurant! Days out just don't get any better!

Nice visit, great wines

Even if the tour was in Spanish and I don't speak it, it was really worth the visit and the money. My girlfriend translated the most important parts, and the other parts did explain themselves.
The visit took about 3 hours and finished by tasting some wines accompanied by some crackers, cheese and cold cuts.

Next time I visit Spain by car, I will certainly drop by this place to get a couple of boxes.

Mudejar wine cellars
Aug 2013 • Friends
Yllera wine company has very extensive, ancient wine cellars which they have updated to make accessible for tourists, with good lighting and an elevator. They are very beautiful and well worth a visit. The tour included tastings of three wines, plus tapas of ham, chorizo, cheese and bread. It is also possible to have lunch in the cellars with prior reservation. The cellars are very cool, so bring a sweater! Our tour was in Spanish but I think they can accommodate other languages. The D.O. Rueda produces some of the very best white wines in Spain.

The best visit ever !
Jun 2013 • Couples
My wife and I went for a visit and lunch on a Sunday at 12pm and it lasted over 3 hours and was wonderful.

We had a tour guide in Spanish but my wife translated ( English would be available at selected times)

the underground maze was great and lunch as lamb chops with sparling wine and vino tinto which was very nice.

we also tried two other wines during the viist and were given 2 bottles of wine to take home.

all for 28 euros on turisia.com

was the best visit we have had.
