Overall, we enjoyed our zoo trip to Rapperswil. There are lots of things for the children to play with and, in our opinion, an interesting selection of animals that you can see. We were looking forward to the Himmapan Lodge, but unfortunately it was closed.
We didn't think the price-performance ratio was right. The staff were mostly unmotivated and inattentive, the tables and seats in the restaurant were dirty, and the toilet facilities at the entrance were in an unacceptable condition. That was very borderline.

Once and never again!
That a pony ride is offered okay... that's one thing. You can do it, but you don't have to.
Camel riding.. doesn't have to be in my opinion.
But elephant riding is an absolute no go!! Unfortunately witnessed (and others too) how the keepers brutally beat the elephants so that they could lie down and put the dishes on them. How can it be that you're so brutal with these great animals? Above all, what is taught to children who notice such a thing? How to deal with these great animals? For us it was definitely the first and last time we visited this zoo, too bad actually because there are nice little things for children. But we cannot and will no longer support such a thing.

We went to the zoo with our grandchild and as for the animals, we saw a lot.
Since the number of visitors was very large, the toilet facilities looked accordingly. There was garbage everywhere on the ground.
Control is urgently needed here. The staff also seems to be overwhelmed, the answers were rather snappy.

Very beautiful zoo. Great for kids and very informative. But there were two things that left a uneasy feeling. First the petting zoo with the goats. No employee was there to take care of animals and kids alike. Of course, it is primarily the parents job to look after the kids but it wouldn't harm to have a person there to ask questions and to take care. Second the penguins, the glass protection was too low so that kids could reach over the glass and touch the penguins. I am not sure if this is healthy for the birds and could be dangerous for the kids if the penguins pick. A lot of parents didn't care.

This is supposed to be a childrens zoo instead it is an unfriendly, miserable place to go to. I feel sorry for the animals that are kept here and made to perform. The staff are so unfriendly it made it a very unpleasant visit. The one member of staff by the elephant ride was so rude he made my 2 year old son cry as he would not let him stand with me in the queue. Will not be returning to this zoo.....definitely prefer Zurich Zoo!!

small zoo, nice for children, nothing from another planet for adults. the cafe gives you an acceptable option for eating, either warm meal or sandwiches.

Small zoo, mainly for small kids. Can ride elephants, camels, which is quite nice (CHF 2 per kid of a one minute ride), and petting of small animals. The elephant and giraffe areas are quite big, lots of space for the animals. Cool is the boardwalk/bridge that takes you over the elephants and which looks new. It connects to a Thai restaurant that seems nice, but which fills rapidly. The sections of the other small animals are ok, and the show with the sea lions is sad. The infrastructure is old, not cleaned up, and the show is kind of worn out 70's, where while "funny" for the kids, it obviously forced the animals over thousands of times into rehearsed unnatural behaviors. Overall the price is relatively steep, and there are much bigger, more modern and animal friendly zoos in the world. Still given its proximity to Zurich and the fact it has attracted generations of kids from Northeastern Switzerland over decades, it has become some form of a tradition and still deserves an average rating.

After attending the Knie circus year after year, we FINALLY got to see the Knie zoo :). It's a really cute place, designed for kids before all. They offer camel and elephant rides for only 2chf, and the sea otters show (free) is a must-see! They have an entire family of elephants, horses of course, and also giraffes, zebras, penguins, monkeys, goats that you can pet and feed, llamas... Of course it's not a huge zoo but it's a nice one. We loved it.

The Knies Kinderzoo is located less than 10 minutes’ walk from the Rapperswil main train station, but I would suggest one to walk along the water’s edge to the zoo which takes only a few extra minutes and you can enjoy the nature habitat area along the water.
Entrance to the zoo for children is 6CHF, which is reasonable, but the 14CHF for adults I think is a bit steep! The entrance fee is a cash only basis and there is a cash machine directly across the street. A small parking lot is also available for 1.20CHF/hour.
After entering, there is a canteen with various dining options from snacks to drinks, schnitzel to hotdogs and all rather pricey. There are restrooms around the zoo and grill stations.
Some of the many animals on display are elephants, camels, sheep, birds/fowl, chickens, squirrels, goats, llamas, pigs, flamingos, turtles, zebra, sea lions and a lizard house among others. There are timed shows for the seal arena show and feeding times for some of the animals. Animal rides on the ponies and camels are available.
This small zoo is nice, but pricey for adults. Some of the cages and exhibit space seem to be in serious need of repairs. There are vending machines, plenty of benches for resting, at least two restaurants and an AED units on the property.
Overall, the zoo is nice and reasonable for kids, but the price for adults is high and by the time you feed the family the costs quickly escalate. The zoo is mainly open from March through the end of October.
