Heidiland and Liechtenstein Tour from Zurich: Two Countries in One Day

1,000 reviews
If you want to visit "Heidiland" but don’t know the best way to get there, this day trip from Zurich is the ticket. You’ll visit the village of Maienfeld, where the beloved Heidi books were set, and spend time in Zurich and Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, too. It’s the perfect way to learn the region’s history and culture while following in the footsteps of Heidi in the Swiss mountains.

I am not particularly a fan of zoos having seen almost all the animals in the Kinderzoo n the wild. however, it is well done; the animals do have sufficient space to move and be themselves. Many animals, like their cheetahs, cannot be re-introduced into nature since they have become too accustomed to people. Hence, it is good for children and adults to see them and hopefully will lead people to protect them from poachers etc. in the wild.

Well organised with food to feed the small goats and pigs and a great sea lion show. But really is quite a small space and you do find yourself questioning about why the animals are in such cramped conditions. A recent addition of a cheat in a small enclosure did feel wrong.

We attended the conference and were taken to this zoo in Rapperswil. These beautiful giants should be living out in their own habitats. They are so loved and well looked after though but still I was sad for them.

A tiny zoo by the lake in Rapperswil. You can cover the zoo in less than an hour. The attraction are the giraffes, elephants, camels, cheetah and a seal. You can ride the camels and donkeys. It's quite small but a lovely place to spend a few hours with the kids. Its great for toddlers because of its size and they can get close to the animals. Inside the zoo, there is an asian restaurant and 2 cafeteria. If you're in the area it's worth a visit.
