A marvellous showcase of multitudes of venerable motors from the 1890s onwards.

One of the oldest we saw is an Oldsmobile from 1898 followed by others from the same decade, such as the superbly conserved Patentmotorwagon Popp and Parisienne Victoria Combination.

Moving into the first decade of the 1900s great examples are here. Notably a Renault AZ, Charron Typ X, Turicum and a De Dion-Bouton from 1904.

A gorgeous Rolls Royce Phantom from 1928 is another highlight. As are a 1952 Mercedes and a 1923 Citroen.

A tremendous way of spending an hour or so.

We found ourselves with a few hours to spare before our flight home, and decided to jump on the number 14 tram and head to the Pantheon Car Museum. What a place. We loved the place and spent a good hour or so just wandering up and down looking at the various cars- we wrongly started at the top and worked our way down the ramp to the bottom and found ourselves piecing together the various cars and history as we revisited each of them. We went with our 10 year old who loves cars. Would definitely recommend.

The Pantheon is a very nice restaurant. The atmosphere is interesting since the whole buidling is some mixture between parking garage and museum for old/historic cars. Kitchen is typical swiss, quality very good.

Very cared for collection of cars and friendly enthusiast guys explaining and telling a lot of story about cars stored there. A bit of nostalgy seeing some exemplars my parents had when I was young.

Went for the cars, quite by accident discovered there is very nice restaurant on ground floor. Hearty lunch (several nice selections, something for everyone including vegetarians plus salads) followed by a stroll through the car museum is recommended. Don't be put off by being in Muttenz, it's just a simple short tram ride away from downtown Basel.
Lunch was tasty, generous portions, very reasonable price, save room for dessert. Service staff all had big smiles which was appreciated.
Museum not huge, no guided tour, but very interesting if you are a car buff and know basic automotive history and mechanics. Esp. suited to those having interest in sports cars and older (pre-1930's) vehicles. Very nice gift shop too. There is a small charge for entry to museum (but not gift shop.)

Pantheon is always a good adress for a quick and good lunch for a fair price in Basel area. The menue changes every week and offers something for every taste. The salads are fresh and the portions are quite huge.

Service is friendly and kind.

Great place for lunch, daily menus, for everybody there is something. Right next to a small car museum.

This unusual setting of an old-timer 'maintenance' lot (where private owners can park and service their old-timers), this is a great choice for either lunch or dinner: business menus are decent and very tasty (c. 20 CHF) and the overall look and feel of the place comfortable and welcoming. I've eaten here several times and never been disappointed with food or service. It really is a great setting for a high quality (yet not crazily expensive) meal - with the fascinating surrounding an extra cherry on the top.

This review does not cover the actual museum itself, as we only visited the ground floor with free access, but rather an oldtimer tour that is part of the services offered by the museum.
We had been given the option to either hire an oldtimer for self-drive, or with a driver. The self-drive option would require a one-hour training, but would be cheaper.
However, as we planned to do this as a surprise birthday present for an elderly family member, with a party of four, we figured it would be more relaxing for everyone to take the option with the driver.
The plan was to let the driver take us the nearby countryside close to the French border, have lunch somewhere along the way, and then come back to the museum. For that, we had reserved the car + driver for a total of 5 hours.

The experience turned out to be fantastic!
The driver, an automobile and England fan, entertained us brilliantly along the way, explaining all about the Bentley we were driving in. Part of the fun was to get the stares from passers-by, as the 1943 model was no doubt attracting attention.

Rather than just looking at oldtimers, driving in one proved to be a great experience. Also realising how challenging such an old car can be to drive, I was glad about my decision not to drive it myself. Sitting beside the driver was much more relaxing and allowed me to enjoy the drive thoroughly.

A great way to spend half a day!
