Pretty Ascona is more like a Med resort rather than a lakeside town - especially on a warm summers day. It is lovely to stroll the lakeside promenade and there are a plethora of places to eat and drink. It is a pleasant walk here if you are staying in Locarno, or you can take the bus easily enough

Ascona is always worth a visit. Been here a couple of times and still amazes every time.
The town itself is a sight on its own right. Strolling through the narrow streets and lanes is just a nice thing to do. The old town's not that big, so you surely won't get lost.

Besides the old town the Promenade on the lake - the Lungolago - is what you come for. It's not the biggest or longest Promenade, but it's one of the most beautiful. The Lago Maggiore is just a wonderful lake and you can see to the other side: Italy. Take a walk, take a boat...take a break and enjoy this wonderful Promenade.

There's plenty of space, since the Lungolago is very wide. Along the way a good number of restaurants and of course some souvenir shops. But also a nice park at the southern end and lots of benches to stretch your legs. From the official photo op on the northern end you really can get nice pics of the Lungolago with the colourful buildings backing it up.

If you're around here already, don't miss out on Locarno, another beautiful town in Ticino.

This is the perfect little picturesque lakeside town. The colourful lakeside homes dot the panorama with gorgeous blue, yellow, salmon coloured hues, yet Lago Maggiore is the real protagonist here. Boat tours to the tiny islands, water excursions, lakefront cafes, and the Alps in the background will just make you never want to leave.

Charming to the point of kitschiness, with plenty of unchallenging activities to suit kids and seniors. By night, a party scene.

We always walk here from our house. My kids (7 & 9) love the park along the water at the far end of the strip. They have a mini go-cart track (just an oval) that costs 1 CHF for 1 min. of riding. There are 6 huge trampoline jumpers next to the park, creating a mini "fun zone." Walk down further and you can catch the boats going to Italy. (Cannobio is always a great destination for cheaper drinks and pizza.) All along the path are amazing views and tons of places to eat and have a drink. When you need more adventure, rent a paddle boat (4 people max) or a motor boat to explore the lake. Watch out for the big passenger boats, though. They find amusement in scaring the smaller boats on the lake and get rather close to them.

The waterfront area of Ascona is a wonderful setting. It calls you to sit at one of the outdoor restaurants/cafes and drink an Aperol spritz, beer, wine or whatever. The mountains and lake paint a scene that is hard to match. All the charm of an Italy with the Swiss touch. Well maintained, clean and safe. Your blood pressure should drop 10 points!

Ascona is one of the pearls of Lago Maggiore. The surrounding mountains create a micro-climate of its own.

The lake sparkles in the sun. Take a boat trip across or along the lake; a true sense of times passed.

The exceedingly long walk along the lake offers its unique peace of mind: what was life here two, or five, or ten, or twenty centuries ago?

It was just a great time having holiday there. We took boats to go around the lake, visiting cities i.e Brisago and the island. We tried B area in Switzerland, next time A area for Italy. The time was limited, we had to go. Oh...We paid around 20€ for a day trip. P.s; visit the church near the lake just next to the municipal's hall. It's beautiful inside but be aware of the opening time, in the morning or afternoon will be better as at night it's closed.

Walked along the car free old town was really nice. There are many choices of restaurant and many shops around. Found a bit of trash in some part of the lake, but still worth to visit.

Car free, with plenty of benches and trees, fantastic views of the lake and the islands of Brissago. Particularly pleasant during the jazz weeks and chestnuts week-end
