We took the Sunnbuel cable car up and then walked to the Gemmi Pass (taking the gondola down to Leukerbad). The hike is strenuous, but the payoff is well worth the effort.

Even in winter, with snow and ice on the ground, we had a great experience. I wore my crampons to come back down the snowy, icy paths. A good sturdy pair of winter boots would serve well enough. Great scenery, stunning views from the top....More

This is a moderate hike with a good combo of both ascending and descending climbs. Be sure to take water with you! We took bus from the Kandersteg Bahnhof (free with hotel discount card) to the Sunnbuel lift and then over to the Gemmi pass....More
