This historic hike is tough and rewarding, I hiked up and enjoyed the grand vistas along the way. Spectacular. Reaching the top was a reward and an accomplishment. I rewarded myself with lunch at the resteraunt at the top. The food was great. I then...More
Took the cable car and started the walk up to the hotel stopping at he little cafe on the way great rolling mountainsides and even cows with bells round their necks it was a great walk and the views at the hotel are breath taking
I had heard so much about this trail, and was a bit disappointed. It’s mostly flat and well-maintainer gravel, so great for bikes or kids, yet it would be a long walk for a kid. Takes about 2 hours (+\- depending how fast you walk)...More
We live in Switzerland and hike often. The Gemmi Pass hike, which we just did for the first time this past week, is now one of our all-time favourites, and one I feel I absolutely must recommend to travellers.
We stayed in Kandersteg (lovely! Oeschinensee...More
Nice hike from Sunnbuel (gondola from Kandersteg). Relatively flat ground except from some parts over a distance of about 12km from Sunnbuel to Gemmi Pass - There were hikers of all ages, some with pets and some people on mountain bikes. Beautiful scenery all the...More
From the top of the Sunnbuel cable car station it is a fine 8.5 km walk through snow or meadow/alpine flowers passing streams and on to the Gemmi pass above Leukerbad, it pass the Schwarenbach hotel/hostel and restaurant, and then on to pass Lake Daubensee....More

The slide is at Oeschinesee and can be reached via a gondola lift. The slide is at the end of the gondola ride which takes sabout 10 minutes to complete . This gondola is in the centre of the village. The nearest hotel (3 *) is the Ermitage which is very pleasant, comfortable with some excellent food. If you require a budget hotel not too far away (10 min walk) try the Post which is far bettewr than the 1* rating , in the centre of the village and very much a traditional hotel. The Gemmi pass is at the far end of the village (bus from the centre) and is best reached by the Sunnbuel cable car (avoid 2 hour uphill slog). The walk via the Swarenbach hotel (worth stopping for refreshment and celebrate the fact that some interesting people have visited here (Lenin, Mark Twain). The whole walk takes about 3 hours and at th top of the pass the descent to Leukerbad is best undertaken by cable car, but can be walked. The bus joirney down to Leuk is spectacular and very enjoyable unless you worry about hairpin bends.
