Beautiful park with lovely waterfalls
Apr 2021 • Couples
We hiked the 3 mile loop to see 2 waterfalls. Then we drove to another parking lot to hike about a 1/2 me each way to the WInter Falls one. Lots of ups and downs, steps and uneven surfaces , but not too steep or scary. Well worth the views. So funny to go behind the Falls, too, to see "the backside of water". Benches or rock's to rest on if you get tired.

Meh. Used to be cool.

So much graffiti and trash everywhere (especially littered masks), bathrooms are gross and rarely serviced. Too many unwelcoming signs telling you to wear a mask outside, which makes no sense anyway. Thanks, Oregon State Parks, for completely abdicating your responsibility in maintaining “Oregon’s crown jewel” and providing a healthy space for the public.

Awesome views and spectacular location.

Such a beautiful state park with lots of history! Make sure you read ALL the plaques to know more about the CCC and how the state park came to be! All the waterfalls accompanied with the fantastic paths were well constructed.

A birthday weekend side trip worth making!
Aug 2020 • Couples
We made a side trip to Silverton and Drake’s Crossing for the Silver Falls State Park which contains ten waterfalls in relatively close proximity to each other. It was a hot Summer day on August fourth with virtually no breeze but it was well worth the trip for the beauty and the gorgeous views of South Falls. While we could not afford the time to view other adjacent falls of which there are nine we very much enjoyed the South Falls and wading in the water before it goes into those falls. We did not walk under the Falls as you can on this trip or walk the entire trip to the bottom as we have in milder weather. It was time exceedingly well spent and the view of the fir trees and the falls are majestic. There is a lodge that sells ice cream cones, drinks and sandwiches but the quality of the ice cream has gone downhill since my last visit and is more like a tasteless vanilla or chocolate or swirled combo cone of ice milk rather than the creamy tasty ice cream I remember and I would not recommend the current reincarnation compared to that of days of old. Parking is only five dollars a day making it a bargain day trip during coronavirus for the whole family and we saw many families attending! Highly recommended and we look forward to visiting it again soon!

Unbelievable waterfalls in a temperate rainforest

The geology was super cool too. I went twice within my two week trip. Beautiful. You are in shade on 90% of the hike.

Worth the stop to see 1 of more falls
Aug 2020
Great hike to see 2 of the falls. you can do a short hike to see the south falls or longer hike of 3 miles to see this falls and next falls downstream. Walk behind both of them. Several hundred feet of drop in this walk that you will be walking back up.

Shorter winter loop trail
Aug 2020 • Family
Exceptionally beautiful and easy hike. We did 8 falls since we heard several were already dry in August. We started at Winter trail parking lot. It was so fun to walk behind the falls. Trails were within mossy trees. Our hike was over 5 miles instead of 7 miles. Definitely recommend.

fairly nice hike among the trees and the upper and lower falls were pretty and you could even hike behind the upper one!

we drove here from our KOA campground but if we knew there was a campground on site...we would have camp here ! beautiful sites and dry camping - the campgrounds were packed and tents and RVs there.
the hikes were gorgeous and very doable even in tennis shoes but we wore hiking boots. the waterfalls are pretty and just seeing the Christmas tree farms on route was a bonus!
though the 'cafeteria ' and lodge was closed due to covid ...we wore masks on the trails and about 45% of the people there had masks on the narrows trails, unfortunately.

Awesome State Park and Great Campground
Jul 2020
Tent camped a couple nights in the campground and walked the Trail of Ten Falls one day. Some of the waterfalls along this trail are amazing. It was really neat to be able to walk behind a couple of them. This trail takes 4-6 hours so pack water and food if you do it. We were there on a weekday and the trail wasn't too crowded. I could see it having a lot of people on a holiday or weekend, though.
Our campsite was large and under some very tall trees and had a small creek running behind it. The camp host also was very helpful. This state park is definitely one to visit.

Oregon Treasure!

We actually did the entire 10 mile hike to all 10 waterfalls on a busy Saturday. We wore masks in areas with other visitors and went without when we were on the trails alone with our foursome.
The trail is in very good shape and has an elevation gain of around 1,150 feet. Some think the trail is only 8 miles but our two separate GPS devices were showing 10 miles. Remember to bring water and snacks, no water on the trail unless you purify stream water.
The falls are stunning, majestic, misty, awe inspiring and magical. Well worth the visit.

Hi, we are planning a trip to Oregon and are interested primarily in hiking. We are coming during the first week of May. I am wondering how many days to spend at Silver Falls State Park and if there are other recommendations for other areas nearby that are good for hiking, or other parts of Oregon that are a must-see. I know the state is full of gorgeous trails, mountains, lakes, etc. We are considering half the week at Silver Falls and half the week in the Mount Hood area, but wondering if Silver Falls is more of a day trip than a 3 day experience.

Have been to this place a few times and have never seen any pets along the hiking trails. Perhaps the park office could give you more useful information regarding the pet policy when visiting the park.

Best place to start your hike the South or the North
Jeremiah Z

Definitely the North Falls. Simply because you can actually get started hiking earlier as that parking lot will be open at sunrise. The South Falls parking lot is closed (gated) overnight, so you'll have to get started hiking ~1 hour later at the earliest...with everyone else.
We really liked hiking the entire hike counterclockwise (first doing the short spur to Upper North Falls) as we spent a good chunk of the day not running into any other hikers until we came closer to South Falls. If we'd started at South Falls, that would not have been the case.

Hello! We are planning to visit and hike and I am curious how long it will take us (round trip) to do the Lower South Falls Loop?

How are the waterfalls this time of year?

Normally the waterfalls have lots of water this time of year. This year we had quite a drought so they have been a little lower than normal. Even with this the waterfalls are still beautiful minus Winter Falls which generally doesn't flow much this time of year anyway. Walking around Silver Creek Falls in the Fall is quite enchanting though. The Autumn leaves of the maple trees really lighten up the forest and provide lovely reflections in Silver Creek as well as beautiful framing to the waterfalls. A few berries may linger for a tasty treat in late summer to early fall. Higher water flows are in late Fall into Winter. In the Fall, the maple leaves are fun to walk on, through in the air, and gather to admire as each is quite unique with different coloration. Each season has its own charm. Plus there are usually less people in Fall and Winter on the trails so more solitude especially on weekdays.

Can you park an RV in day use area?
Darrin L

The answer is probably yes as there is a lot of parking in the lot.
Overnight: The main campground has tent sites, RV spots and cabins. Bring your horse and stay in the horse campground. If you need an area for many people, the park also has group tent and RV camps, dormitory-style bunkhouses (each Ranch sleeps 75) and the historic Youth Camp for up to 250 campers.

Did not see anything specific, but there was ample parking if you arrive early. You have to pay for parking so you might want to check out their website just in case for info. about RV parking. Enjoy the park...very pretty.

What are the park hrs

Woodburn, OR308 contributions
It depends on where you park. Technically it generally is open from daybreak to dusk daily if you don't park at South Falls. Winter Falls parking lot has no gates. North Falls didn't have gates but it might now. I have walked there in the dark before by moonlight but that was thirty years ago. You must have a parking pass which you get by machine at either South or North Falls parking lots. South Falls parking lot may close there gates at nightfall. The cafe and lodge have more limited hours.
