Absolutely worth the visit here! You get real insight into the people and industrieds surrounding Pontresina over the last few centuries. Cool mountain climbing artifacts, pictures, and films document this. The museum is a very old building showing how life was a few hundred years ago. Interesting as well for all aged-children.

I visited this gem of a museum in Pontresina after a recommendation and I'm so glad I did. Full of historical pieces and geological beauties the museum is an old Engadiner farmhouse and the rooms are full of original artefacts, household equipment and furnishings.
As a bonus there is an special exhibition this spring and summer (2017) about the 19th century British tourists who discovered and fell in love with the Engadine and returned year after year. Very interesting for this first time visitor to a very special, captivating and beautiful area!

It was great to visit this lovely old swiss house. It contains a random collection of objects which I enjoyed seeing. Rocks, retro ski clothing, taxidermy. The staff were mega friendly. I am really happy i visited.

Some rooms are decorated to show who people lived in the Engadine in the old days, but there are also rooms dedicated to crystals, birds (including sounds to some of them, great for kids), mountain animals and the special exhibition dedicated to the English church in Pontresina which is very lovingly done and gives great insight into how the English visitors in the second half of the 19th century spent their time and shaped the area.

We went there with our 2 little newborn, so with a stroller. To enter the building no way to use enter easily with stroller. The exposition is really interesting and nice, and I strongly suggest everyone to visist it! Lot of mountain minerals exposes, and lot of swiss skiing story (Jugend Ski Lager during and after WW2). On the upper floor, we loved the sounds of birds, which can be triggere by a keyboard. Really interesting.

You will get a glimpse at old kitchen utensils, bedware, clothing and other domestic articles. You will learn about the history of Swiss skiing and tourist culture.
There is a wonderful butterfly and semi-precious gem collection. There is also a wonderful little library with tour books and guest registers of historical value.
The volunteers running this museum were quite helpful. One word of precaution: some of the door lintels enteriing the exhibition rooms are kind of low; so watch your step and head! For a change of pace, relax and enjoy this museum for a worthwhile visit.

A very nice museum with many interesting things in it. The special presentation of the anniversary of cross-country skiing was really good.

Built in an restored homestead, this museum features restored rooms with historic furniture, fixtures and appliances - stoves, etc., - from the last 2 centuries. You can learn a lot about the way the locals lived in this part of Switzerland.

Great little museum, but is only open weekdays between 4 and 6. Didn't have much of an english translation which I would have really loved to understand more, but the displays were certainly well organised and easy to understand. Great mountaineering section, but the rocks and minerals blows everything else away

This small museum consists of an old well kept Engadiner house with original fittings, furniture and other artefacts.
Kitchen, sleeping quarters, store rooms etcetera.

But in some of the larger rooms, there are a few exhibitions on local topics, history of alpinism and tourism in in the area, geology, hunting, local wildlife etc, with some artefacts related to that.

The exhibitions feel a little dry, at least if you're visiting at the end of a day hike.
The main interest is seeing the interior of such a house and learning more about life in the area in the past.

They have a leaflet about the rooms and the artefacts. In English, and German.
If you use reading glasses, you will need them though:-)

The information in the leaflet was a bit thin, but the man working there was very helpful and knowledgeable and could answer all questions I had, and some more, so that I came away having learnt quite a lot.

A visit takes 20 minutes to an hour, depending on time available and interest.
If fits nicely in after coming down the Alp Languard seilbahn, after a hike, or if you arrive in Pontresina too late to start a longer excursion.
Definitely well worth the time and admission fee, if you are in Pontresina anyway, or in the immediate area.
If you're not, then you need to be rather interested in old buildings and local culture, to make a side trip to Pontresina only for the purpose of this museum. Although maybe, as a rainy day program.
