Tucked away in Vevey, the Swiss Camera Museum is a must visit for people who love photography! Chronicling the history of cameras & photography through the years, this museum spread across four levels even has a small gift shop selling Leica-endorsed products & postcards at the entry.

It was a pleasure seeing old Leicas, Nikons & Hasselblads!

Amazing museum. They had cameras from the beginning. The audio guides came in many languages and were very helpful in explaining all the different cameras. I had no idea there were that many cameras. It truly is a camera heaven! Highly recommended.

If you are a camera enthusiast, this is the place for you. Located in a period building on Vevey's market square, you will witness an extensive collection of cameras and camera-related equipment and examples of the photos from the various cameras through time. It is not just Swiss cameras but a well balanced view of the photographic contributions from many countries. Equally important, it is not limited to the history of vintage cameras - the evolution of the digital age is prominent also. There are many rare cameras to marvel at as well as rare photographic techniques. There are four floors with elevator in one building then crossing at the top to another building and back down to reception. They are small buildings but packed with photographic treasure. There are plenty of well crafted displays and interactive stations. There are free devices for an audio tour in several languages (keyed to numbers on the displays). It is clear that the museum has an attention to detail and the displays engage the viewer. There is also a small museum shop. It cost about 8 USD - well worth it.

I had been here on a Sunday morning when there was nothing else to do around.
You can almost mistake it for a shop as it is tiny hidden between cafe's and joints.
I was pleasantly surprised to hear that there were no entry fees on Sunday:)

I was also provided with an audio guide in English which was a relief.
This is an amazing collection of cameras and various phototgraphy techniques.
Detailed descriptions at the installtions are a good read.

Interesting, well laid out museum of photography. Unfortunately does not cover much on the pioneers of photographic technique such as George Washington Wilson, but otherwise good.

Comprehensive displays from Daguerreotype to digital photography and also special niche equipment such as a compact camera from the '30s. Movie projectors are also covered. All within five floors of this tiny (from the outside) building. Located within 10 minute walk from the train station and near the lakeside promenade. Museum entry is free if you have the Swiss Travel Pass, otherwise it's 16 CHF for adults and 7 CHF for under 18 years. Audio guides available in major languages.
