An Unexpected Gem - but not that kind of mining!

We stopped in Bex on a whim after reading an article on mining in Switzerland and then seeing the roadside sign. We lucked into some openings on the next tour. At first we... read more

First of all there was no warning about the "sardine" tin of a train! Certainly not for the claustrophobic or larger than average - we sat outside the train but people inside were locked in!!!! Very scary. We asked about an "escape" route rather than go back in the train and were told we HAD to go back in the... More

We stopped in Bex on a whim after reading an article on mining in Switzerland and then seeing the roadside sign. We lucked into some openings on the next tour. At first we weren't sure it would be worth the 2 hours since we were on a schedule and needed to get to the airport. It was well worth the... More

Interesting visit of the salt mines, where you can see how hard those guys were working. The smell can be pretty strong and the temperature a bit cool but it doesn't matter, the tour is nice and entertaining. The little train makes the visit a bit more special. Possibility to buy souvenirs, products from the mines and postcards in the... More

Worthwhile visiting this little place in Bex! A very well organized attraction. Also, one must pay a visit at the shop, where little treasures are hidden!

My dad and I were taking a drive through the alps, and saw the signs to the Mines du Sel, so we thought we'd take a look. They take bookings, and luckily they had spare spots so they were able to fit us in. We were lead into a mine shaft, watched a short film on the history of salt... More

We had a birthday "apero" for a very international group of 30 something people. The place itself is truly unique, well worth to take the time. It was well organized and kept on schedule. The cold plates were various, delicious and more than enough. The only negative and yet funny point to highlight is the tourguide's individual style: instead of... More

We decided to visit the Salt Mine during a rainy afternoon. I went with a Swiss friend and our four kids, from 6 to 9. It was very interesting and instructive. It's an immersive museum, you walk in the gallery of the former part of the mine, you take a small train from the beginning of the XXth century. The... More

Interesting area of local history and how salt is extracted from the ground. Great way to discover how salt was the gold of the area.

You start this visit with a video and then you board a train for a one of a kinde trip inside the heart of the Swiss Alps! I smiled like a little kid! I was very surprised to learn that this mine has been active since 1555. The guide was absolutely amazing, with a really vast knowledge and was so... More
