What a beautiful experience. I grew up with the Heidi movie and books and it was amazing to see the costumes, props and village from the movies as well as driving through beautiful Maierdorf.
It’s a narrow two way road, more like one way, up to the parking lot, buses get through as well. Then a 5-7min walk, with a toddler it took 10-15minutes and from the bottom carpark it would have been accessible with a pram or wheelchair. We parked by the Heididorf restaurant which had a narrow track to the village. Bring coins for parking. It wasn’t expensive. There are toilets at the restaurant and there is a playground. They serve delicious barley soup among other things.
Heididorf was amazing. You can buy entry tickets in the gift shop and upstairs is the museum. You can also buy goat and chicken food. You can go in and feed the goats. That was great. Lots of great displays and original movie set rooms. It all looks so authentic. Stunning views all around of the alps and wildlife. One of my favourite things to do in switzerland. A must visit!!

About one hour of drive from Zurich to get to Heidiland in Maienfeld area. The drive was good, plenty of scenic views. But the views of the Swiss Alps are even better once you get to Heidiland. You can then drive up to see Heididorf and hike a bit if you feel like or just walk around Heididorf, which is not big, not that much to see but is cute. And everywhere you turn, the majestic Swiss Alps around you, beautiful views, great pictures to take. Everything is so clean, such great harmony, the people living there know how fortunate they are to live in such paradise and they really treat the place like it should be, with respect and awe in the face of such nature splendor. If you're in Switzerland, your trip won't be complete without a visit to Heidiland, so I strongly recommend it. Even if you don't drive a car there, I think you can take the train or a bus, might be even better.

We were in Zurich for 5 days so on the Monday of our visit, we booked the Heidiland tour in the Tourist Information Centre at Zurich HB. It cost us 80 Swiss Francs each and the tour consists of a tour of Zurich, a trip to Rapperswil, a trip to Liechtenstein and it finishes up in Heidiland.

The tour guide, Pieter was a fantastic guide and funny too and one could see that he loved his job which was to benefit us as his knowledge was admirable and it enhanced the quality of the tour that little bit more and Juan, the driver, has to be given credit for his driving in this enchanting region.

When one eventually arrives at Heidiland, one must seriously step back for a few moments and take in the fantastic scenery at hand. It was worth the view in itself and it was a reminder why so many people love to visit Switzerland.

To enter Heidi's house you must pay 6 Francs. To come this far it only makes sense to pay it to see what it must have been like to live there many years ago. They have props for people to pose with and around the house, there are items and furniture to give an idea of what it was like to live there at the time. The view from the bedrooms were absolutely breathtaking and it was a nice ending to a great tour.

Do not do this tour. I just did this with my 2 daughters on Sept 18, 2012 and after 2 stops we arrived at Heidiland area and were told we had 15 minutes to tour the area. This was a 7 1/2 tour there and back and to only get 15 minutes in the only place we wanted to visit is horrible. The tour guide did not tell us anything along the route and only said "there's a school, a golf course. That's a good mountain for skiing" Don't waist your money! Do this on our own as there are lots of hiking trails in the area and a train station nearby, I wrote a complaint letter to the company, a first for me. I work in the travel business so I do lots of tours on my own.

This was a great tour. We travelled through quite a bit of Swiss countryside, went to the tiny country of Liechtenstein, and ended up in Heidiland. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny and the scenery was breathtaking. We were able to feed the goats in Heidi's tiny village. It was a wonderful family experience.

Heididorf is located in Maienfeld area...Just hope the train to the station Maienfeld, and then hop in the Postbus to the Heididorf bus station located around 2km from the Train Station. Take note that the Postbus is not available from Monday to Friday, only running on Saturday and Sunday! So unless you want to do some hiking up some countryside! From the bus stop, one can do the uphill hiking which took around 45mins to reach the Heidi house where the famous book "Heidi" story located! The hike up will bring you back to the old country view...It worth the hike if you loves beautiful mountain scenery and history!

It's just another place to stop to have lunch during a journey, but it's Heidi related, a good strategy to attract families and kids. So good for them! For normal people is a big expensive place to eat.

I am so happy my moms and I made it. The trip from Zurich to Heidiland is so picture perfect. We really had great time. Heidiland itself is so quiet, so serene, clean. You will juat love it.

But if you travel with seniors like i did.. the road is a bit difficut for those who had knee problems.

We travelled with GrayLine Tours from the bus depot in Zurich. We already pre-booked the tickets but as it was not peak season you could buy them at the bus. We commenced our journey with a quick tour around Zurich then hit the road to Rapperswil. From Raperswil we journeyed to the small principality of Liechtenstein. After some free time there we headed off to Heidiland. The landscape during the tour was stunning and amazing. The commentary provided by the tour guide was excellent. Her English was clear and the facts interesting. Once at Heidiland it is a small 7 minute walk from the bus to the summer and winter residences of the author. A wonderful insight into how life was like in the Alps more than 100 years ago. We enjoyed this tour immensely as we got to see more than just Heidi’s house. Arriving back to Zurich at a reasonable time. I would highly recommend this tour, especially if you have a shout amount of time in the Zurich area.

I was in awe when we arrived at Heidiland. I had to walk around 3 times to take it all in. The food offered was fabulous. I tried a taste of several salads. All was delicious.
