Pretty amazing structure from the 14th century that is still standing. It is one of three gates that still exist in Cochem. We also visited the Balduin's Gate which is by the Friedhof Cochem Cemetery.

Very old gate, dated to 1332. It was one of the gates of the old city walls to protect the city enemies attacks. Now, there is an hotel next to Gate, which you can easily skip. It is located in the middle of the city.
If not mistaken, served as a prison too.

Enderttor is one of three stone medieval city gates in Cochem. The other two city gates are Balduinstor by the city cemetery and St. Martinstor on Herrenstrasse, built by the Archbishop of Trier as a toll house. His castle is on the hill above.

Enderttor, built in 1332, still has a section of the stone medieval wall connected to it. These two defensive measures protected Cochem from attackers coming from Endert. Citizens exited Cochem through Enderttor to reach this village in the mountains thus its name for the city gate. Like the other city gates in Cochem, there is only 1 opening in Enderttor. An arched, narrow passageway allows pedestrians to walk through it onto Endertstrasse which takes tourists to Cochem's two attractions - the historic Mustard Mill and the Sesselbahn. The thickness of the defensive wall becomes immediately evident in this passageway. Other defensive mechanisms in it didn't appear to be present.

I liked a story about this city gate. Legend has it that attackers from Endertal turned back at this gate when, after successfully opening it, they were barreled over with the town's empty wine barrels which the citizens had piled there. The attackers got the message. The town had no wine barrels to plunder and left the townspeople alone.

Enderttor is quite impressive in height. Located 1 block from the foot of the bridge leading into Cochem, it is much taller than the height of the three floor 14th century yellow hotel attached to it, Alte Thorschenke, An interesting side light - At one corner of this hotel are the flood level markings that occurred in the late 1700's; above those markings. is a carving of Saint Roch - he shows off a bare leg.

Enderttor was an interesting photo stop.

The largest of the medieval gates built in 1332. So great to see such history up close. If you have time it is a must.

Still added the remarkable place of Cochem, the tower gate which is the evidence of its beautiful existence and governance. This can be related to the presence of the Reichsburg castle atop the hill. At present this still made a special passage to and from the city center. Stunning piece of architecture.

The gate was built in 1332 by Elector Balduin and served as the northern passage of the city wall. The Enderttor was well known among travellers, as the passengers of the stagecoaches to Cologne and Frankfurt gathered here for departure.
For a time, the Enderttor Gate served as Cochem City Prison.
The connected gatekeeper's cottage is now a hotel.

Enderttor is the historic city gate in Cochem. The tower is an evidence to the gateway uphill to the castle. A nice piece of architecture.
