Parts of this church have been on this site for close to a thousand years. The high ceilings with arches is very impressive. Take the time to go down into the crypts (oldest part of the church). There you will be able to see the...More

There is an extra charge to visit the crypts but it is well worth it. Also go all the way to the top, for an overview of the cathedral. To get a good view of the dome, walk around the back of the cathedral.

Welcome to one of the largest churches in Germany. It contains the tombs of eight German emperors and kings. In 1981, the church was added to the UNESCO list of “ World Cultural Heritage.

A lot of history from this area and cathedral. It is a must to walk down into the crypt and see the kings and emperors buried down there. Very impressive and a must see.

We sat for a while in the grounds before we entered the cathedral, a really peaceful place to sit. The cathedral itself was rather plain, but a walkway to the side of it takes you up above the town and the views are just spectacular.

I have toured many, many Cathedrals all over the world. They each have their own style and beauty. This Cathedral had a distinct look all it’s own. Yes, it was vast looking, but to me the ceiling had a beautiful depth to it. There was...More

This is a rather plain cathedral that dominates the town - the inside has an industrial feel - just a large void

I have to admit, this was not my favorite cathedral in Germany nor in Speyer. It had a stark industrial feel to the architecture. We had a local guide and this was not one of the stops he brought us to, and I clearly can...More
