Lovely Local Church
Sep 2019 • Friends
This is a beautiful local church that is filled with carvings, paintings and icons. It was much smaller than some of the churches we had entered. It was charming for a quick look

Small Church by Moselle River
Oct 2018 • Couples
The Church is located in town center facing Moselle River. It is a historical stone-tower building built for around 600 years. Worth to have a look if you have time.

Nice church, worth a stop
Sep 2018 • Couples
While walking through the Bernkastel side, this is a lovely place of quiet reflection. Enter through the side door, not well marked.

Oldest town building with imposing stone tower
May 2018 • Couples
St. Michael's, the oldest town building, is right on the Mosel and can be seen as you cross the bridge heading into the heart of the city. The 600 year of tower is the only remaining part of the city's stone wall still in existence. While it was part of the church, it provided city defense until Louis XIV destroyed the rest of the church. The current church has a rather simple exterior, but contains a number of art treasures as well as an ancient altarpiece.

A Fascinating Church
May 2017
This church is well worth visiting with its plague chapel and ancient altar piece. It is quite small and peaceful overlooking the river and with a fascinating history.

Beautiful stone church tower
Aug 2017 • Couples
The church tower of St. Michael's is the only remaining tower of the old stone walls that once surrounded Bernkastel. Still remains after Louis XIV destroyed the rest. Very interesting history.

Double purpose very old Church !
Apr 2017 • Couples
We were told that this is the oldest building in Bernkastel and its unique architecture had a double purpose : a place of worship and a defensive tower acting also as a bell tower ! This explains why it looks likes two different buildings !

Do not miss this! - St. Michael's church
Jun 2016 • Couples
The imposing 600-year-old tower of the parish church of St. Michael, which contains a wealth of artistic treasures, is one of the most prominent features of the town's landscape and was first mentioned in records in 1177.

The church is in the Bernkastel part of town and is the only remaining building in the Moselle region that is still consistently preserved in the style of the 14th Century.

The church tower resembles a fortified tower and has evidently served a defensive purpose.

Definitely worth a visit
Sep 2016 • Solo
You can see the tower of the church from just about anywhere in Bernkastel or Kus. It was very quiet and dim inside. Smelled a bit musty too which added to the feeling that I was inside a very old church.
